I'd like PLD....and no matter who we would trade for, its gonna cost us someone on the current roster thats going to hurt....it just has to.....because we are looking for talented players, and we will have to give talent back.

That being said...if I'm trading young talent away that we would hate to see go (KK, Lundy, even Schneider, etc.), I would love to get Elias Lindholm....checks all boxes. There is historical interest there....this is the guy who would make a huge difference for us
Certainly a better option than overpaying for Kane (winger), Malkin, Miller, Kadri and others.

it doesnt take a rocket scientist to see this possibility materializing, and to further add to things he is not a drury pick. if grots was still here it would be much harder to picture kakko moving but...

Totally agree. Ive been suggesting its a very real possibility since the trade deadline

TBH I've been saying this for a while. We have a plethora of assets. We need to get creative and think outside the box. I don't know about this scenario but you don't know unless you try... It will for sure be expensive

Sign and trade.

The Rangers could get Kadri if Drury can engineer a trade whereby Kadri would sign with a third team that would assume 50 percent of the contract before immediately sending him to New York for a package of futures.

I’m thinking that tanking Chicago and Arizona would be perfect candidates with which to pull off the caper, clubs that are willing to take on bad contracts and money in exchange for the kind of return they would receive from the Rangers.

would a team like Arizona or Chicago actually do that? It would make more sense for a player like Malkin TBH, where it will be a shorter term deal. Malkin at 2-3M for 2-3 years? is more palatable. Then we could also sign Stastny.

Kreider Zibs Laffy
Panarin Malkin Kravtsov - remember the Czech figure skating line? We Russian now
Chytil Stastny Kakko
Goodrow Brodz Hunt/Reaves

ps - I do not condone moving for Malkin but it is what it is

Arizona hasn't been shy about buying prospects before. Thats exactly what teams do when they take on a bad contract/LTIR contract for an asset.

Don't think thats worth Kakko but Nils? Absolutely.

Has to be at a good term though. Anything above 4 and I'm out.

Arizona would probably love this idea considering how it helps them get to the cap floor

Demoting Nemeth this year should be completely on the table if it can be worked within the cap space they have. They don't NEED to carry 7D all the time. Hartford isn't far away in the case an emergency player is needed and lets be honest, if the Rangers were in Vancouver and realized the morning of a game they needed to call someone up, they could conceivably call someone up and have them play that night if needed.

Probably more than Kakko or Lundkvist+ lol.
what did edm just pay for arz to take kassian ?
Kassian dump was a decent amount. A future 2nd and 3rd, and a swap of #29 with 32 which is not that big of a deal. That was to dump 2 years at 3.2M.

But yeah, it would probably cost Kakko+ to have a team cover 5M over 3 years.
For a smart GM yea. But this is Chicago we’re talking about
Also this lol soooooooo Hajek and a 1st

Looks a lot like some of the players you want at the deadline. A few guys like this that are out there in free agency. All would be upgrades for the 3rd/4th lines.

If they're going to buy him out, I think others who know the CBA have said that it makes the most sense to do it next summer instead.

Of course, they may have also held back from doing this because they're getting ready to move him.

I was half joking about the cap circumventing shit that Drury is going to pull off, but I'm starting to believe it.

Yeah no Nemeth buyout is fishy. Drury doesnt seem like the kind of guy to back himself into a corner like this. Could retirement also be an option? I speculated as much during the regular season. Lots of "personal issues" during the season and I believe he has young kids. He can definitely continue to make good money if he decides to head back to Sweden.

I suppose they could bury him in the AHL, it's only 375K more than buying him out. I don't know how willing they would be to do that though.

It's pretty apparent Drury is looking to upgrade 2C to a proven commodity and they feel that neither Chytil or Copp is the answer and will put them over the top. They have had talks about PLD, JT Miller, and Kadri. They want another alpha male in that very important 2C slot. The east is wide open. I will not be surprised by anything that happens in the next few days.
