Hope this report by Frank Seravalli is wrong concerning Rangers and Nazem Kadri. 14:25 mark. Fingers uncrossed.

Damn that's not just like mentioning in passing, it seems like he wants to be connected to this rumor because he truly believes that this is happening

i was replying to someone else who used the nuke deal to justify kadri getting 8+ for 5 years. if kadri gets 8+ it will be for 3 years. if it goes 5 years than the aav starts to come down. kadri would be such a mistake.
Oh I agree. Would love Kadri here, but can't be done capwise and shouldn't be done for over 4 years anyway. But some team is going to offer that to him make no mistake about it.

Guy is 32 just won a cup what could possibly go wrong by giving him a 6-7 year deal? Hmmm. I wonder
There’s something to be said for bringing guys with championship pedigree into the fold, but there’s also something to be said for buying guys that are still hungry for a taste of the Cup. Kadri is a nice player but his continued motivation scares me.

I'm leaning towards @bleedblue94 and think this is actually forbidden in the CBA. I'm also pretty sure if Brooksie heard about such a rumour, the league has heard about it and basically sent a memo "don't do it".

The last time similar circumvention was used when Colorado traded for Grubauer and Orpik, bought Orpik out and then Caps re-signed him. The league basically sent out a memo saying Colorado and Washington were not going to be punished because technically that was allowed, but any team trying to pull similar BS in the future would be hit. After this there was the Tampa LTIR-stuff, I think the league really doesn't want to have anything of this sort going on. Let alone it being with Arizona which is a controversial team anyway...

I don't think the league can stop it from happening if the rules don't state that its illegal.

Also ultimate f***ery scenario -

Rangers land both Kadri AND Kane with salary retained using both Chicago and Arizona as salary retaining vessels. I don't even want this to happen, but for sheer summer entertainment it doesn't get any better than that. The whining that would commence from other fan bases would be top level and it would make what Montreal did at the draft look as exciting as going apple picking.

Any chance the Rangers can convince Gretzky and Messier to come out of retirement and play 2/3C for us? Can't be any worse than the other ideas being thrown about.

i dont know for sure that the sign and retain is prohibited but it makes sense that it would be rejected by the league in some fashion bc the league will not allow you to trade play x to a team, have them retain and trade the player back to you until a year goes by. it would be beyond idiotic for the league to not see this sign, retain, trade scenario happening.

I'm all for exploiting loopholes. I didnt care when Tampa did it and thought people whining about it were dumb.

This seems like its pushing the envelope a bit too far though. If its legal, hey lets f*** with it.

Dude, i love your posts and we always get into discussions but you need to pick one and stick with it here.. Either you are okay with it or not. There are no degrees of cheating, you cheat or dont cheat.

You are ok with other teams cheating but with us you say its a bit too far?

8x3maybe, 8x5 i would be floored. maybe 7x5? either way i dont want that here, i dont want him here either.

CBA allows it do go on every year. Every season one team or another is cheating. A memo didnt stop them before and isnt going to stop teams from doing just that this season and beyond.

Trocheck would be a phenomenal add.. but like all the other targets it all depends on the term and $. I'd be surprised if he comes in under 6... if I'm a team with cap space I'd have zero issue giving him close to 7 with term. He hits, good on the dot, has the talent to be a 70 point player.. if he were here playing next to Panarin I could see him having a career year. That being said, how long are we going to delay promoting the young players?

Why did we even bother to get number 1 and 2 overall picks including a stud dman in Miller when we can barely sign them lol. We are talking about taking on 32 and 36 year old centers for 6 million plus.
Hopefully this is just pure entertainment and CD comes no where near signing these over 30 year old guys for big money and term.

I don't think it's circumvention anymore than using a third team to broker an existing contract is.

I also had no issue with the Orpik thing. They paid a hefty price to get Orpik's contract off the books.
