That's probably because playing on the PK isn't actually that linked with being a great defensive player, at least for forwards. Kyle Connor has been an adequate PKer in his career.
But PLD has no other argument for getting the Selke, so the fact that he also doesn't get a boost from playing on the PK.
I would argue that it should be. The PK is almost entirely a defensive effort. Getting takeaways, blocking shots, winning board battles, - it all adds up to PK% and goal prevention which is basically the definition of defense.
Not saying it's right or wrong (assume that's aimed in my direction) just if you have 2 equals yet one of them have been doing it for years. Most people when forced to choose, will pick the one that is proven.Funny how people always complain about the Selke being a reputation award, considering some of the responses and reactions in this thread.
I guess fans are no better than the voters.
