The fact that Marek said "You have to wonder what this means for Strome" tells you everything you need to know.

Everyone who tunes into the Rangers from Sir Avgaard's grandma to the MSG concourse cheesesteak guy knows Strome is the back up back up plan that's already so far gone.

Miller is going to make this team that much more dangerous, at even strength at 5v5 and in the postseason. You get him and reassess as time goes on what to do. Not everything has to be done and planned 3-4 years in advance. You can have another shutdown or the cap is ****** up again. In the current world we are in, planning a week from today is even a stretch in some aspects. I’m sure Drury has a plan. The team came within two wins of a Cup final appearance and looked damn near impressive after that Pens series.

Copp is going to have no shortage of suitors though, so why would he feel the need to panic? Teams will covet him.

I don't see the long list of contenders who will have the cap space and need for Copp though. The landing spots are drying up...

Billy, this is JT Miller. A legitimate, do-it-all 1C. He wins face offs, something we don’t have any of. He has grit. His one defect, is that he is a rental.

Chris Drury is not coughing up a haul for Miller. He will get him on his terms. And yes, Copp as your 2C, I am afraid, is not winning you a Stanley Cup. All-around, star C's do. Miller is one now. The nightmares and flashbacks of the inconsistent NYR from days he was 25 have people shook on here. He isn't that player anymore. Zibanejad-Miller down the middle is Cup-caliber. Avs with The Dogg and Kadri, Pens' runs with Crosby and Malkin, Caps' runs with Backstrom and Kuz, Tampa with Point and Stammer. You need a legitimate 2C that is good enough to be your 1C. I like Copp, but just because you traded for him at the deadline doesn't mean you now have to commit big money to him because you coughed up 30OA and Barron. Stop.

People have to get off this seriously. The guy they traded was not this player. Hell, Yzerman even dealt him!!! The great Stevie Y didn't see this coming!? So because the Rangers had him once, they can't get him back. These reasons are stupid.

No bud, its the 1year left on his deal and the cost of acquiring him as a rental that has most here unwilling. We can not afford him on his next deal and honestly i dont want to give him 7 years after this one either. Then we have to make another trade to find a center the following year bc we will be in the same position and then boom our cupboard of prospects and picks are barren.

These are the issues

unless its a total head fake looks like JT is coming...hope its not filip

I don't see any possible realistic package that doesn't hurt bad.

We aren't getting him for Lundkvist, Berard, and a first. (The most I'd offer)

Your point? Strome was collecting dust on PP1 regardless of handedness. He didnt do anything
miller would be a one time option if teams cheat to zib. we saw zib in the tampa series one time slap pass to players in the high slot who muffed the shots in an attempt to establish another option that pks needed to respect. miller can be a shooting threat on the pp so he would add an option there in the high slot/bumper area.

all that being said i believe drury is still the guy that says here is my offer, this is what i think is fair, if you have a counter near this bring it, but i am not being held hostage in a deal. i am not panicking at these rumors bc these talking heads are literally just throwing stuff out there right now for hits. i like marek as a host, but "the winds are blowing to the rangers" is pretty silly.

I could see Copp as Kadris replacement in Col.

It's a fit.
Also I wonder how much the contender part overruns the money part. If he gets a deal that ends up being worth 3-6m more over term with a club like Seattle that will likely tip the balance. Danault chose LA over the Rangers for a little bit more didn't he (could be other factors too I'm not aware of ofc).

If the Rangers feel they can move Trouba (ATTN: Detroit Red Wings), signing Miller isn't out of the question. I like Trouba and would prefer not to move him all things equal, but having an elite 1-2 punch at center locked down long term through our window is more important than keeping our 3rd best defenseman, especially if Schneider can get another development year under his belt before we have to pull the trigger.

We have 0 in the organization at center. No one is coming up behind Mika/Chytil/Goodrow. You need 2 do it all centers to win in this league, as recent history has told us. I also dont care that Mika/Miller are 29. Stamkos just put up 100 points at 34 after everyone declared him dead and buried 2 years ago. Age is just a number in a contention window.

We've heard we're interested with Copp, PLD, Kadri, Miller. It seems like any big name that could conceivably play center is linked to us. I don't really see anything that suggests what's going on now is anything more than just typical off-season speculation of trying to build narratives. Big name that plays center? I'm sure there's an angle and at least one twitter account linking that person to NYR. This stuff changes on an hourly basis.

Bingo.

I don't believe they have the money. They are rumored to be looking at re-signing Nichuskin and Kuemper and still have Lehkonen to sign. On top of that, next off-season they have Mackinnon, Compher and Byram to sign next-off-season.

I think it was the additional year (6 versus 5 years)
