Roster Building Thread - Part II: Entry Draft Edition

Aube-Kubel is an interesting addition to the UFA list. He is a waterbug type of player who can chip in the odd goal and plays a relatively physical style of game. Issue being, he doesn't PK a whole lot...

Raffl, at 33 years old and coming off 16 points last year with Dallas probably won't be overly expensive as a UFA.

A combination of Raffl/Aube-Kubel would be the makings of a really good 4th line if Motte wants too much money or term.

I'm still holding out hope for Hornqvist on a Perry-like 2 years @ $1m per season

He's also going to be 32 next season. I don't think most people realize just how old he is. He's going to want a 5-year contract when in reality you should only be getting like a 3-year deal. You only advantage that you have is if you give him something like 5 years maybe you can get his AAV down significantly, but I highly doubt that he's going to settle right now. This is his chance to actually cash in

I'm not comfortable with anything over $2m as a cap hit for any 4th line player. In saying that, I'd give some term if he would come back.

They had a pretty good run considering I guess they had no chemistry.
 
32 Thoughts this AM:
- Murray wants to go to TOR. Leafs goalie coach has history with Murray. Leafs are reviewing Murray medicals now. Salary retention/3rd team to take money stil unknown.
- Oilers are favorite for Campbell, rumor is 5x5. Kuemper looks like he's going to DC.
- JT Miller - Some idications that VAN may give teams permission to talk extension with him. As of Friday PM, they had not.
- Brent Burns - SJS checked market on Karlson, nothing doing. However there is interest in Burns. Burns has a residence in TX. Can the Stars make it work?
- Florida Panthers - Can they extend Weegar? Ottawa could have interest. They are still looking to keep Grioux.
- Columbus - They were in on McDonagh. They were in on Romanov. They were in on Dach. Could continue to be aggresive in the coming weeks.
- Malkin - Issue is term. There have been 3 year offers. He wants to stay and they want to keep him.
- Grioux - High interest. Florida, Ottawa, Edmonton.
- Johnny G - Philly trying to move JVR to create space. Calgary has 8X9.5 on the table.
- Palat - Can go eitehr way.
- Ryan Strome - NYR and Strome were talking all year, never found a sweet spot. Term is the issue. Drury likes Strome and Copp, but wants to maintain flexiblity.
- Dylan Strome - High interest in him league wide. Played well after coaching change.
- Copp - Will Yzerman give him the term? Marek ties him to Nashville.
- Larkin - Thinks the extension gets done. Moving in right direction.
- Nuchuskin - Working on deal with Colordao. He wants to stay.
- Kardi - Rangers and Islanders are looking at him. Will be alot of competition for him.
- Kane & Toews - Will both discussion their futures with CHI. Colorado was interested in Kane last year. If Kane is available, watch Colorado.
- Perron - STL wants him back, but needs to clear room.
- Motte - Good teams want him.
- Klingberg - Carolina will have interest. Ottawa could be a fit as well.
- Josh Manson - Could go back to Ducks and get the C. LA could have interest too.

If Boston re-signs Kreijci and Bergeron comes back, that takes them out of the market, conceivably, for a center. That means the center group of Kadri, Copp, Strome, Trochek, etc have one less seat in the game of musical chairs...

Apparently, Florida has a lot going on trying to clear money to re-sign their own free agents. They want to keep Huberdeau and Weegar.

Florida wants to do a lot despite having less than a million in cap space and no picks. I would love to see what it takes to get Bennett or Verhaege out of there.
