Kerfoot would be ok, but just kicks the can down the road and isn't anything special or anything the team doesn't already have.

A fine Plan E or F.

The beat writers already have their articles written before they interview these guys.

"It was nice getting the draft picks from the deadline back, right?"

"The goalie market is substantial, that's why you were able to move Georgiev, right?"

With the draft over it’s onto free agency

JT is still out there, is Drury going to cave? Tune in next week

Also those signings happened pre-Covid. No one could predict it and the effects on the games economics.
bingo, really at this point the cap should be 5-10m higher than it is? if it was at that point we would have very few cap issues right now and people wouldnt be working up about the trouba contract among other things.

they would be whining about something else

I agree with the bolded. Didn't they essentially do that by NOT resigning Skjei? Maybe he shouldn't have been drafted in the first place? All Gorton and Co. did for a while was draft defenseman.

How many other times has a "J.T. Miller situation" happened to the NYR? He fell out with A.V, who was kept too long. And this was Gorton's doing.

The NYR/Drury have cleaned house. Put the past away now. Let's see what Drury does next week. It should give us some insight about how he feels this team's chances are given the recent playoff run and this current roster.
Fair enough... I guess I feel like they don't know where they are with players and how to handle that situation... especially forwards (giving them credit here w Nils because its very situational with him).

That just CAN NOT be a pervasive issue across multiple GMs, coaches, scouts, regimes etc. in a cap league IF you want to win and it has certainly been that. Hoping Drury bucks that trend.

I don't think so.

He did the same thing in Boston where they were terrible, traded Thornton and then turned around and signed Chara and Savard immediately after picking Kessel.

It's his MO. If he had space to do anything in Montreal he would probably be in on a bunch of guys this UFA season.
you think that dolan the owner that signed off on the letter and the tear down didnt want changes after the awful next season that left the pr department with virtually nothing to market on an awful team in the heart of NYC? the same owner that two years later threw a tantrum and cleaned house bc progress was still too slow for him among other things?

you also dont think boston ownership wanted chara and savard signed? O'Connell is the one that trade Thronton and he was fired shortly after in part for the move and its affects. The bruins got their one high pick and then they reloaded. That isn't all that atypical for most teams. The teams that dont do that turn into buffalo, ottawa, edm, arz, nj and suck for multiple years.

Chiarelli has already been hired at the time that gorts signed savard and chara, but the league told him he had to wait until jully 11 before he could start actually working for boston due to contractual issues. You would be absolutely foolish to in anyway think PC wasnt responsible in part for the signings and plan to make those signings even though he hadn't officially started working there yet. people who are interviewing for gm jobs literally are asked to spell out their plan and moves, it is one of the reasons that when a gm job opens teams interview so many people so they can hear all the different ideas. gorts would have been in the room for those talks through the hiring process and been given directives from his soon to be boss and ownership.

you cant possibly think in any world that the jacobs gave autonomy to gorts to make those signings when we all knew he would be out of the position and replaced in 10 days when PC could officially start working.

there is no mystery here what happened in boston and there shouldnt be one about what happened in nyr

These morons are starting to figure this out.

does their media and fanbase talk about any other team as much as the Rangers when it comes to trading Miller? It seems like they're borderline obsessed with trying to pry away our prospects. I don't really see the same level of fantasizing or media coverage (which is usually just B.S.) aimed at any other team other than the Rangers. I just listened to that podcast too. Right away, the two hosts are talking about the Rangers and Schneider. Who would've thought.

I think Vancouver waits to see if a team gets desperate after missing out on guys in free agency. Don't think Drury is going to budge off of whatever his offer is right now.

I am curious to see what some of the mid-tier free agent centers like Copp & Trocheck get on the open market. Even Kadri. There isn't a lot of cap space to go around, at least not from the top teams in the league. If these guys want to go somewhere that they can win-now, they will have to leave money on the table.

Fans also shouldnt lose sight of the fact that we would've been drafting top 10 this year without Panarin/Trouba/Kreider. Their contracts were market value when they were signed and they remain 3 of our 6 best players.
