Not exactly sure why SEL is better than AHL, but I don't disagree either.

Except for contract reasons?

one benefit of playing overseas is his ELC doesn't start. This team will need productive guys on ELC's in future year's, so why burn a year on an 18 year to play in losing environment?

His ELC will slide as long as he doesn't play more than 9 NHL games.

Counting on rushing Andersson to the NHL is far more of a panic move than trading for a top six C using next years first and/or some of their younger assets like Buchnevich or Miller.

his elc will slide if he plays in the AHL?

Yes. It doesn't matter where he plays, as long as he doesn't play more than 9 NHL games. The rules are different for 18/19 year old players than they are for 20+ players.

Look up Anisimov on Cap Friendly and look at his ELC contract. He played in the AHL at age 19, and did not play more than 9 NHL games. His contract slid that year. Miller played in the AHL at age 19, but also played 26 NHL games, so his contract did not slide.

That's very interesting then, did not know that. I'd still prefer he play back home as 19 yo old then on crappy Hartford team. Unless he really makes the big club.

I don't see what the issue is if LA is ready. If he's ready, that wouldn't be rushing him. If he isn't and they keep him around, then it is. No one has any idea what he will look like in September.

Moving assets for Duchene would be just as, if not more dumb.

1. "Looking ready" in camp may be a mirage. Vesey last year, Lindberg two years ago, Gilroy his rookie year.

2. The question shouldn't be "is he ready" it should be "what is best for his development" especially with such investment.

Yeah the Duchene crowd makes no sense to me

It would be mortgaging the future for him. That goes against everything Gorton has said they will do from now on

if you give Lias Andersson his 9 games..how close does that get you to the time that Jesper Fasth should be ready to play?

Might be the ideal situation for the Rangers..give the kid his cup of coffee, don't burn off any time, and stopgap yourself till Fasth is ready.

Slavin is one of the bet young defenders in the game. Him and Pesce are both great

Good on Carolina for locking him up during his prime

Fast will be out until sometime in November so I don't think 9 games is enough

They shouldn't rush him either. Lindberg got rushed back because they were desperate and his play suffered because of it

Admittedly I don't get to watch that many Canes games but is he worth a 7 year deal already?

Yes. One of those players who completely changes the game in his team's favor when he's on the ice.

#fancystats stud, but it looks like a lot of the mainstream hockey analysts are also coming around on his game.

What is the point of these picks? The draft is a crapshoot after the 1st round. Either way it's 3 picks outside the 1st.

Clearly you aren't familiar with the HF valuation system. It goes roughly like this:

Unborn child > toddler > preteen > teen > high draft pick > draft pick > junior prospect > NCAA prospect > AHL prospect > nhl roster player > anyone older than 22.

1. For sure, but I think all 3 of those are bad examples. Vesey and Gilroy were making the team no matter what and Lindberg got plenty of time to cook in the AHL and had a strong rookie season.

2. This is fair and should be taken into consideration. Depends on how LA will be used and hinges on AV not derping it up, which is more than possible.

FTR, I want him back in Sweden for another year. Frolunda will be good, he'll get loads of ice time there.

I'd still rather roll into the season with LA for 9 games (or more, depending on what he does) provided that hes ready to handle NHL minutes than over pay for Duchene if given the choice between the 2.

Again, not a fancy stats follower like you and many others are, but in looking at his HERO chart he looks just good? Not amazing, but good. On par with Shea Weber who many **** on?

I know he is a good player and I am by no means arguing that but does it seem like they jumped the gun a bit for a guy who has been in the league for only 2 years? Or is it because he is a bit older and only has a couple of RFA years left? Genuinely curious

As far as I know, the seven-year deal buys four UFA years for Slavin, which is great for the Canes.

Really interesting that their HERO charts are similar (Weber and Slavin). I try not to use those and dig into the stats on my own. Looks like Slavin's impacts are a lot stronger than Weber's. Can you share a screenshot of the HERO charts?

Think mostly that Weber gets '**** on' because of his contract, and the way people "oooh and aaah" over his game.
