Why can't Tampa contracts be used as benchmarks? Because of the tax reason?

Games played away get taxed differently, so only half of the contract gets the tax benefit.

The Rangers organization is known to have some of the best, if not the best, treatment of players, amenities, and benefits of anywhere in the NHL. The players get that huge boon.

Also, players and their contracts can be traded. Once you are traded you don't get the tax benefit of the place you originally signed the contract.

The tax argument is overblown. Tyler Johnson contract in Tampa freakin' Bay can certainly be a barometer.
That's a good point but I just can't ignore the contracts Tampa has given out recently. Hedman, Stamkos, Kucherov, Johnson, Stralman (not sure he should count). Idk maybe someone wants to do the math on Hedman with a $9M contract in a different state. I definitely don't.

When you factor in the contract length, taxes, cost of living, I'm going to assume the difference is significant.

Vigneault said that Miller was scouted as a center and that management likes his potential in the middle and said "I think that J.T. has a lot to offer us in different ways."*(NY Post)

Trade has to be coming then.. I don't care how good your blue line is, you're not getting outta the 1st round with Zibanejad, Hayes, Desharnias and god knows whelse down the middle.

Where does this concept of the Rangers having the best benefits, treatment of players, etc etc come from?

Not that im doubting the truth of it, but i always hear that from players or former players when playing to the New York media... Do you really think a player is ever going to crap on a franchise and the normal people that work for them? Most of these testimonies are from people who are still relying on that franchise directly or indirectly for money, they're drinking the coolaid/part of the system.

This is a major professional sport in North America, I highly doubt theres any amenity one team has that other teams do not.

Seems to be some disagreement between AV and FO

I don't know, I remember watching the Flyers/Rangers on 24/7 and thinking to myself "I'm so glad our team is this awesome".

Ryan Spooner
Nick Bjugstad
Paul Stastny
Stephan Da Costa
RNH

Staal is owed a bonus in the near future. See if Florida is willing to swap contracts.

They obviously have their eye on someone.

The problem with RNH is the Rangers just traded an "underperforming" center who makes 6M because of the amount of cap space he took up (and yeah the upcoming NMC also factored into it).

I wonder if they're expecting Andersson to grab the 3C spot. It's important to have players contribute on ELCs, but it's more important to develop your players the right way.

Still definitely also believe that AV sees a lot more for DD than 4C.

That would be a mistake.. We're going into the season hoping for more from everyone of our centers?.. scary.

Isn't RNH fairly lean too? Could be something to think about with flexibility in lines.

Zucc- short but tough
Buch - Really lean, still can put on muscle

i have a feeling that when camp breaks the middle of the ice will look like this

mika
hayes
DD
nieves

i think management believes that boo nieves is ready to assume a full time 4C role.

DD was signed to allow miller to stay on the edge

and kevin hayes is being given a huge opportunity to show what he's got at 6'5 220 lbs. they seem to really like his upside. huge opportunity for him to grab the 2C.

i also think well see some jtmiller at center ice in camp as a hedge. if he plays well at center, then thats going to make for some interesting decisions.

i think were done adding guys for now.

I think Spooner or Stastny would be alright, depending on the cost of course.

I'd stay clear of the others.

It's July 11th.

Still a lot more of the off-season to go and the general picture for the Rangers 17-18 season is still very vague.

I think if this is the plan, it is a fairly new plan...

If this is the plan, It means they were considering moves and Andersson looked good enough in the prospect camp to believe he'll compete well enough to earn NHL time.

Might not even make the playoffs with that center depth.

Oh I would beg to differ. I would seriously beg to differ.

I think the main thing at play here with the FO is the Zibanejad contract. I think they want to see where he ends up before deciding how to fill out the roster.

However

Our center-depth ****ing sucks right now.

Zib > Hayes > LA > DD or Zib > Hayes > DD > Boo.

Barfffffffffffffff.

Stepan wasn't great by any means, but you could consistently pencil him in for 50+ points a season and usually good defense to play against the other centers, someone who can PK, etc, pretty much play in all situations. until proven other wise, we don't have one center on the roster that can claim they can do that.

This blue line better be freaking insanely good.

FLA is going back to the D-Zone system before the corsi boys changed it. Staal suits that system very well.

Both of their goalies are great when half the ice is covered... so low pressure on the puch carrier... but the cross-pass taken away.

When they traded Gudbranson & Kulikov, their internal players were like WTF!!??

That's a big reason why.

Bjugstad makes the most amount of sense... but he's a guy with motivational issues... which maybe this coaching staff couldn't fix last year... but my hopes are that Ruff can Ruffle a few feathers without much worry and hold them accountable.

FLA off-loaded their D-Corps last year.. and this year they're doing that with their forwards... foolishly mind you... they don't have enough up front to make the playoffs without making more changes.

Oh I would beg to differ. I would seriously beg to differ.

Clarifying what i said:

I meant any amenity that would influence player performance... I.E. weight room wise, training staff wise, sports science wise.

Clearly NY has off ice amenities that aren't really comparable. I.E. Player X's wife likes broadway so Player X asks management and they pull strings to get him some good seats. Dinners at fancy restaurants, the typical things you'd see with people with connections/money/fame

Miller comes closest. But there may be a trade in the works. Rangers should have ponied up something to keep Oscar, but hey thems the breaks sometimes.

My hopes are that they have a trade lined up and are waiting on contracts. Signing bonuses.. RFA demands etc.

They need a match-up center that can play in the top 9. Doesn't necessarily have to be someone that chips in 50 points.
