He was really was their starter at that point. He played 30 games in a 48 game season.
Correct. He had massive injury issues and played for bad teams so people forget how good he was in Vancouver prior to the trade. Lou didn't trade the 9oa in his host draft for a nothing.

How did that deal workout for Ottawa? Many teams don't like Chychrun. He had one good offensive season with a high shooting %.
Poorly. Those trades hardly work out for the acquiring team. Buyer beware. I was on the Chychrun train earlier this season, but no longer with how good Miller has been looking.

Exactly the reason they wouldn't move roy. Like I know hes arb eligible but I think his number stays in a range that they would want to keep him.

Their issue is if they trade Roy they would be looking for another Roy that would be a little cheaper.

Or another piece all together.

I don’t think they’ll be able to afford his raise. They already need to clear space as it is.

We have quality defensemen in spades in Hartford and our system. And it’s possible we find more this year with our aversion to drafting centers.

Overpaying on a defender who isn’t even elite is a bad idea. Chychrun becomes Trouba again. Not quite good enough and overpaid.

Except there are only like 4-5 players who give you any cap relief by moving them and any time you suggest it some know it all weighs in to tell you why it’s “unrealistic” or can’t happen.
Well, we see it every year. So that’s their problem. I’m fine attaching an asset or getting a minimal return if the cap space is worth it.

I wonder why McDonagh was willing to waive from a no tax state on a Cup contender to go to Nashville, I’ve heard it’s impossible to get veterans to waive.

I was surprised to see Malkin is still a point per game player but he is another guy that loses faceoffs. ☹️

Similar thoughts have crossed my mind here. Convert ready players like Lundkvist, who have no spot here, into draft capital for future ELC talent when we will need it more. I’ve read that Ottawa is likely to shop the 7th OA pick to try and improve their roster. Maybe there’s a fit here.

Chytil only potentially involved in a deal like this if they have one of the UFA 2Cs locked up. I don’t want to deal Chytil, but if they clog up 2C then they kind of have to. I’m also not much of a pre-draft prospect aficionado, so I’ll let others figure out if the talent is good/deep enough at 7OA. Last time we drafted at 7, it was a disaster.

I was thinking this. We need cheaper players. I would love Dubois but we got cap issues now. Unless we make a big move like Panarin Mika someone with cap hit, we are not doing much unless a trade for youth.. This would help with the cap and we would get future talent up front with a cheap cap hit which we will need more of.

If you want a good laugh, look at the packages proposed by the Vancouver fans for JT Miller?

A couple of gems:

Give me Alexis Lafreniere if we are trading with the rangers.

Otherwise Schneider, Othmann and their 2023 1st round pick please.

Realistically though, I think the trade will look more like this:

Kakko, Chytll, Lundkvist and a 2nd round pick. Not sure I’d be too happy with that.

Thats a myth. Many guys don't want to be where they are not wanted.

Maybe we could move Goodrow or Nemeth to clear some salary for PLD?

What I do know is that the Coyotes would like to get up higher in the first round. During the draft watch for them to package one of their late firsts and a second to move up to the middle of the first round. Montreal may do the same thing but the Coyotes have better ammunition. The Coyotes apparently have one or two specific players targeted. (I would assume Montreal does too)

Nemeth yes, Goodrow no.

Why not?

I bet Dubois is a Ranger by the end of the draft. it just makes too much sense for this team.

Dach is the guy I’m interested, cheap, high upside, right age.

Not giving Kakko though.
I would give up Kakko for Dach. Hawks would not like that. I’d take Dach over Kakko all day. Dach plays a position of need and stats are similar while Dach is more a complete player and more physical. Goes to the net more and plays a tougher game.
