Stand pat or go for it? The dilemma is real, isn't it? There are arguments, damn good ones, to be made on each side. The danger of standing pat is real. The danger of going for it is real.
I've come to terms with either direction Drury might make.
Let me relate a story. As I mention often, and I am sure many are tired of hearing it, I am in my early-mid 70s, with Ranger memories far back into the distant prehistoric past. When I was young (think twenties), I joked that it was likely that I would never see the Rangers win a Cup. In 1991, I was camping with my family in Terra Nova National Park in Newfoundland. We became friendly with a family from St. John's N.L. Naturally, we talked a lot of hockey. I remember telling them that when I joked, in my twenties, about going through my whole life w/o seeing the Rangers win a Cup, it was a joke. But now that I was in my 40s, it was not a joke any longer.
I'm sure many here feel the same way. Luckily, I had 1994 and for sure, that "memory will last a lifetime." But that was 28 years ago and I'm sure many fans now feel like I felt in 1991. And certainly, I want to see another. My two sons are both hardcore Ranger fans. In 1994, one was 13 and other 11 (his birthday was actually on the day they won the Cup). They certainly remember it, but they were kids and want to have an adult memory of their own now.
So, I perfectly understand those who want to go for it. BTW, both of my sons would rather not trade Chytil or KK.
But, I do understand the dilemma. No one ever said it is easy being a fanatic Ranger fan (or Met fan, or Jet fan, or now, a Giants fan, or a Knick fan).
So, I get it. If nothing else, this off season will be fascinating.
