Friedman also said today he thinks NYR are trying to bring back Strome. Strome wants to stay. Issue is term.
Money is also an issue. Brooks has mentioned that on more than occasion. The Rangers have a specific number and Strome wants more than what the Rangers have budgeted for that spot. Staple wrote Drury wants to stop giving out NTC's.

I trust Drurys judgement but if thinking of the playoffs I would prefer not to invest in Strome or Copp. Both will be good in regular season but I really think we need more speed and physical players if we sign anyone over 4 mill.

This is the most important thing. The Rangers seem to give out far more than any other team in the league and then we wonder why we have so many damn buyouts. No more trade protections.

The number Drury has allocated is likely still more than I’d want to pay Strome.

And we don’t even know what his situation with his injury is. Are NYR planning on using the LTIR loophole? They used a retirement contract on Brad Richards right before they were cut back on by the league.

I transcribed Elliotte Friedman's comments on Malkin word-for word:

"I think, you know, like, I'll, like, who's gonna, who's gonna sw..., the one team I'm really curious about on a short-term kinda thing is, um... [reflects inwardly for 45 seconds] I would wonder if the Rangers would try something."

It really felt like he didn't know where the sentence was going when he started it. I'm slapping a [SPECULATION] tag on this one.

This is how you know these insiders are out of touch with the Rangers. Vince and others have literally said he is done with the team. They cannot afford him.

Marek is saying they want a player and a high pick lol. Maybe a team will fork over a pick for him to get his rights. I'd expect that pick to be nothing better than a 4th.

I'll believe this when I see it. Will Drury allow it to stand in the way of keeping someone he wants?

These Canadian insiders are too much sometimes.

Does Drury really expect to get that price now for Georgiev? No.

These morons listen and read this nonsense. When the Rangers don't get anything close to this or if they even get anything for his rights, all of the imbeciles on the main board will say "see the Rangers didn't what they wanted for Georgiev".

Why is any team giving up anything of note for Georgiev? Every team on the planet knows he's a UFA in 2 weeks. You have to really really love Georgiev as a goaltender (I don't see why you would either) to give up even a mid-round pick and prevent him from going to UFA. And even then, you're going to be saddled at a higher cap hit and number then he may get in UFA anyway after the season he had.

Tampa is going to sell off McDonagh to promote Sergachev into their 2nd pairing. Wonder what they get in return for someone that clearly has a ton of miles on the tires.

Initial thought on who pursues him. LA Kings, Blues, begrudgingly the Islanders, Edmonton

Package him up with Nemeth and take back a 6th rounder or whatever and call it a day. An Arizona type team would take a risk on Georgiev you would think??? Tons of cap space and Nemeth is gone in 2 years.
But of course Nemeth may turn down the trade if he has a NTC. What a joke. 3 years and NTC.

LA could use a LD no? They may be all in this offseason in a weak division. Maybe the Wings but not sure if he remotely fits their timeline.

McDonagh has 2 cups, but I'm sure he's not planning on spending time with a rebuilding team just yet. Those are the teams either trying to rekindle something, take a big step forward, or have a need for the exact player type to slot in on their top 4.

LA makes the most sense to me. They have the most to offer. They're young and could use as many veterans to help. Beyond Doughty, they don't have any other vet defender on the books. Tampa could get a player on an ELC that helps them get under the cap and fills a role on their team. Edmonton would be next. That 2nd pair or maybe even 1st pair needs a player. Blues are next cause they were the only other team than Tampa to be close to beating Colorado.

Islanders are the last of that group cause they have the least to offer, but could really use him. If McDonagh waives to go there, he's dead to me and anyone else that might still like him as a player. He's exactly what they need though. Top 4 spot with Pelech, Pulock, and Dobson.

I wish McD was a buyout candidate and was in the "cheap, one year deal to chase more rings" phase of his career because in that scenario I would totally bring him back.

His deal being a 6.5 AAV and running until he's 37 definitely isn't possible though so it would never work.
