Wonder if JT or PLD would cost more. Both players would be a great fit here. Although both have potential downsides

all depends on the cost of Copp. If it's for 5.25 or less that is the option you have to go with.PLD is gonna want 8 million plus.
If prefer Dubois at 8M to Copp at 5.25 and Chytil at 2.3M (and more soon).

Seattle definitely could be a spot for Nemeth. You look at the D group Ron Francis has put together there... Oleksiak 6'7, Larsson 6'3, Soucy 6'5, Borgen 6'3, Fluery 6'3, even for an offensive oriented Dman like Dunn he has good size. He's looking to build a big, physical D core there. Nemeth, 6'3 230LBs fits that mold. 2.5 million against the cap isn't an albatross. I don't know if he necessarily has much value, if any, but Seattle really lacks depth on their roster as well as within their system. Ton of cap space. The values a question mark, an old-school GM may see the size & experience and throw a late pick at you. I really dont think you'd need to attach a big premium to move him.

I see where you're coming from but depends which Chytil we are getting. I understand how many still feel he is more of the regular season Fil than the postseason Fil. Also you are forgetting the assets you are going to have to give up for PLD. He is gonna cost you more than just Fil. Probably add two more valuable assets like a RHD (we would be lucky if that take Nils over Schneider) and at least another first rounder gone.

I think I saw someone on twitter saying that evolving hockey had the next PDL contract at 4-5 years at ~6AAV.
Yeah In florida maybe lol. New York or Canada? add another million or 2 million I would imagine

Pass on PLD. He is a head case.

Why does Anaheim trade a seemingly useful 4th liner on a cheap expiring deal for a worse, longer contract for a player that proved to be far less useful than the player they'd be trading?
The Ducks are at/below the Cap floor. They need contracts to get themselves through the next 2 years and ice a team that isn't all 21 year olds. Grant and Henrique are real possibilities for the Rangers. Henrique with retention helps both teams.

Filip Chytil is 22 years old and has over 250 NHL games played under his belt already. That's almost 100 more than Kakko who is just a year and a half younger than him.

That's a lot of investment from this organization over many seasons into a young player who just played the best hockey of his career during a run to the Eastern Conference finals.

I don't really understand the urgency to trade him away.

I feel like if there was another center exactly like Filip Chytil with the same exact career, draft pedigree and statistics everyone on these boards would be falling all over themselves to acquire that player.

Bit of shiny new toy syndrome going around right now.

He’s been in Columbus and Winnipeg which are awful places to live for a young person with money.

He’s not going to pout his way out if NY lol
From what I understand he's not pouting in WPG, he just wants to play in a bigger market. He seemed to play hard on the ice. Be curious to know if he was liked in the locker room there. That team went from a very tight team to a team with chemistry issues in a short time. I think Trouba leaving was a big part of it.

Barron has 6 points in 32 NHL games and is about to turn 24. the 1st is the 30th pick. the 2nd is low too. Who were we getting here?

Barron is a pretty good bottom-6 prospect who can play as a bit of a swiss-army knife. Yes, he is 24, but he's a bigger kid who has played well in college and in the AHL. The late 1st is in a similar spot where the Rangers were able to trade up from to snag Schneider or Miller or take Skjei.

These are assets. Teams require assets to move players. Do we not understand that spending assets for a guy who is around for 2-3 months is a bad idea unless those assets are not overly valuable?

I get what you're saying.

I disagree only because if we acquire PLD, RW becomes more of a need than center.
Yeah that would be a concern, but if you trade Chytil your center depth is rough as well and it's easier to find a cheap RW than it would be a center that can fill in. I think they both have similar upside at this point, and Fil has the ability to play in the middle which is an advantage. Just my feelings though and I understand why people would have different thoughts on this.

Whether he enjoys life in NYC is largely irrelevant to the effort he expends on the ice.

Ask Nedved.

Ok but why would they take on a bad contract in exchange for a decent role player on an expiring contract without also getting anything of value back?

I would argue that finding a good 3C who is defensively responsible but not overly effective offenively isn't that difficult really though. Nick Paul. Barclay Goodrow. Paul Stastny. Calle Jarnkrok. Johan Larsson. Erik Haula. These are just some off the top of my head from the last couple of years who could fill that role. Not all of them are 'ideal' but if you build a competent 3rd line to support many of them, it's a good shut-down line.

The only way a PLD move works is if the team KNOWS he will re-sign long term and with him being a RFA this off-season, that contract would need to be signed pretty much right away. It would be a sign and trade. Otherwise it makes NO SENSE

I'm willing to trade for PLD even if he comes across as a head case, but I'm not giving away KK, Laf, Miller, and Schneider for him either. So if they offer us a sweetheart deal, sure. Chytil, Nils, and 2nd. Then we need to figure out on moving salary out of here.

Or they can sign him for two years and reevaluate? Trade him at the deadline if the team is out of it. Extend him mid-season if they want to. Are they not going to be capable of signing an extension with two years notice if desired?

Strome’s medical condition will need to be known before free agency begins. That applies to all teams. If he needs/requires surgery, that throws everything up in the air.
I want no part of him
