I mean, if they had beaten TB and played for the Cup, do you still see it that way?

They only lost the first b/c they went to the ECF.

Yes. I’m of the opinion that unless you are keeping the acquired player, specifically for a team on the rise and not at the top of their peak yet, they shouldn’t be trading high picks for 2 months of any player. It’s horrible asset management and will hamstring this team in the near future.

I meant guys like Gauthier, Hajek, etc., not Nils. Nils still has value - probably not as high as some here think - but it’s good enough to have him as a key component of a trade
No you're right. At best, those guys return similar change of scenery players and you just hope you hit like with Strome.

Say what you will about Strome, that acquisition was a massive homerun taking it into perspective.

PLD took 43 minor penalties last season.

That's 6 more than anyone else in the league and 16 more than Ryan Strome. That's really hard to pull off.
yeah but he drew 51. which tells me a lot of those were matching minors.

Ryan Strome took 29 penalties and drew 16. that's the 5th worst penalty differential in the league for forwards.

It wasn't that Strome just took a lot of penalties. He took a lot of lazy ones and ones from being in bad position. Lots of tripping and hooking.

Would Anaheim be interested in Nemeth? Pat Verbeek was the Red Wings AGM when Detroit signed Nemeth to his previous contract. 2 years/$6M. Anaheim needs a veteran 5th/6th D. More experience. It won't cost much.

Nemeth for Derek Grant who has one year remaining at $1.5M. Grant fills a spot on the Rangers bottom 3/6. If things don't work, the Rangers have the option of assigning Grant to the AHL and taking a $375,000 cap hit. $1,125,000 is the AHL number.
I too thought of Grant, he's no spring chicken, yet I doubt coaching plays him by default above Chytil. So if they are going with the "let the kids play" kind of idea, that would fit.

Is Zucker getting bought out by Pittsburgh? He’s be an interesting buy-low guy based on his speed.
And plays with an edge and goes to the net. Always been a fan of his since his Wild days. I do prefer Vatrano but if they can sign both, that is much needed speed that is needed.

I do wonder if Drury made the Copp deal and didn’t really expect the team to make it as far as they did when the conditions are set.

The Rangers didn’t get bent over a barrel by any means but Winnipeg made out on that deal with all the conditions hitting
U know what annoys me most. Its the fact that Tampa didnt hit the conditions for wither year with the MCD trade. Its like we never get other teams hitting conditions but we do.

Fair enough, I see your point. We'll see what Copp gets on the open market.

I get more pissed off at losing picks to rid yourself of toxic contracts. We lost a 2nd to get rid of Staal and we'll probably have to lose an asset to rid ourselves of Nemeth. Those annoy me more.

PLD would need a new deal the offseason where you can move Trouba & CK.
He needs a new contract now. If he's willing to sign with us long term, why would we not just sign him long term now? We might save a little on the AAV if we go short term, but probably not enough to make a difference. We'll need to move salary back to Winnipeg, or to another team, in any case.
Should have drafted centers like ive been harping on for years and then we'd have our Strome replacement in house at a cheap cap hit, this is what happens when you ignore a cruicial position. I get it, Lias was supposed to be that guy but when you moved on from him you should draft or trade for a cost controlled center
Who should we have drafted? Other than the Lindbom pick (which was terrible for so many reasons), I don't see any other picks that we used on a different position and missed out on a good center. We selected Andersson, Chytil and Henriksson, but 2 of those players didn't pan out.

Derek Grant is one of the worst players in the league.

Grant is 32 which is not old but how is his skating? That is my concern since the Rangers need to get quicker. He is okay depth but nothing special.

he would fit in. Rangers had their share of worst players in the league.

Shame that Nemeth didn't work out because I really thought it wasn't a bad idea. Over large samples, his teams aren't bad when he's on the ice. He's just too mistake prone to take into playoff games.

Yet if they do get something more special, that means the kids are probably either not playing as much, or they are traded.

I have no idea which way they will go.

Nemeth was not the worst idea, it allowed for Miller to grow a whole lot. If they brought in a better LD Miller is probably still on the 3rd pair and we are here wondering if he could be a top 4 defender.

Which is sort of my point about bringing in players which will play above Kakko, Laff, Krav, Chytil, if they do we will be here next summer wondering if those guys can move up a line, or play on the PP, because we still will not have seen it.

Would do it if it was a straight burial in the AHL to get out of Nemeth’s contract, I just don’t trust the team that played Greg McKegg 43 games this past season to do that though.
Right.

This summer, when we inevitably sign at least one absolute plug and people say "calm down this is a Hartford signing," I'm going to plaster Greg McKegg's picture all over the thread.

With their cap structure, especially should they spend 5-6M more, I am pretty sure there are going to be some "bums" on this team.
