Each of the last few years has gotten a jolt from an external source

2022 - Evander Kane
2023 - Mattias Ekholm
2024 - I would say this was actually Knob/Coffey's defensive system (sorry Henrique)

Team needs a big jolt this year, nibbling around the edges isn't going to do it. IMO Gibson or Binnington over a Skinner gives the team that kind of a jolt comparable or even better than the previous few years.

Trent Frederic and shit like this ... lol, no JJ. You poll Colorado, Vegas, Florida, LA, *anyone*, and I would 150% gauruntee they would rather play an Oilers team w/Skinner + Frederic versus an Oilers team w/Gibson or Binnington in net but no Frederic.

They could shed these contracts and start accruing again yes.

But they would end up with less because cap accrues daily. I couldn't tell you exactly how much.
Based on what people were saying earlier in the year the Oilers should still have some cap flexibility at the deadline. It shouldn’t be dollar in dollar out unless something else changed.

I think he's talking about this horse

Honestly I don't even care if they are 'dollar in dollar out.' Send some dollars out then.

We aren't paying these guys millions to give pressers where they talk about how difficult it is to get players.

I agree that the PK won't repeat. But the 5v5 issue will kill that roster where it stands, goalie or no goalie.

I would say I'm more confident in our 5x5 getting back to par compared to our goaltending which has cost this team too many times this season. Our goalies are our last line of defense and both current tandem have failed in that regard.

I'd feel more at ease knowing the team has a stable goalie in net for the playoffs as well where every shot doesn't make me get all anxious that it's gonna be a weak stinker that kills the energy of the team and fans.

We've been a top 5 team in this regard.
Goaltending meanwhile has been net negative bottom.

To me it’s obvious the player who asked for a trade is Jeff Skinner.
Honestly, Jeff has been a complete professional here. Done what has been asked, and taken his scratches without complaint, and came back stronger.

I can understand why he would ask for a trade, but from what I've seen of his attitude, I can also see him just toughing it out to make the playoffs. Plus he has all the money in the world, and his agent can just sell that he didn't get good minutes because of an incompetent management/coaching group when free agency comes.

Arvidsson is playing for his career. He has a couple sub 40pt years, or gets injured and he may not get another contract over 1 million aav. I can see him wanting out.

Arvidsson has made plenty of money too.

And he’s still getting gravy minutes with McDrai.

Gregor saying who cares if they have NMC's. Continues to say that you find a way to move those guys and tell them they won't play if they refuse to waive it.

A little bit heavy handed in terms of the direct moves he's talking about, but the point is the same.

Find a way to make the team better. Excuses aren't good enough.

You'd think so with how badly he's been buried here, but there are too many question marks on this team this year

Kane publicly at odds with the team, Arvidsson absolutely bombing in Edmonton, Henrique buried in the bottom six like he's a 4th liner undeserving of offensive opportunity, even Mcdavid looks like he doesn't want to be here this last month to trigger a bit of insecurity in some anxious fans.

Team feels like it's coming apart at the seams after a bad month of hockey.
