I thought that was LTIR

IR still counts against the cap therefore we accrue space

Please correct me if i'm wrong
I think IR only allows for the team to go over the 23 man roster max limit, yet it does not effect cap space.

LTIR does not either, unless the team is over the cap ceiling by placing a player on LTIR, and even then they do not accrue cap space, they can just go over by the cap hit(s) of the player(s) on LTIR.

Hopefully the 4th line is Hunt-Carpenter-Vesey. It still sucks since Carpenter is there, but hopefully he proves me wrong after his showing in preseason.

If Reaves is out there with Carpenter, that line will get collapsed.

Nope. Teams don’t bank cap space for players on IR. The Rangers do not need to put Blais on IR. They don’t need the roster spot. They could always retroactively put Blais on IR if they need a roster spot.

Looks like they are going to carry 13F, plus injured Blais,

14F 7D 2G for the 23 man roster

They'll have a little less than 200K in cap space to start the season.

With Bartkowski released and Tinordi waived, do we maybe place a claim for a dman today after sending Gauthier down? Would probably necessitate a trade but still. Lots of options out there.

Can they claim someone and assign them to Hartford? They are at the NHL roster limit with no room to add another player to the NHL team.

Yeah would prefer Jones over Trouba for the uber kid pp line but it doesnt matter when the only time theyll get is when they pick up the puck in their own zone with 22 seconds left.

Neither IR nor LTIR changes the amount of cap space you accrue.

Let's say the cap is 100 mil, the team has a cap total of 98 mil, and the season is 200 days long. They are allowed to spend up to 500k per day. They are actually spending 490k per day and saving 10k per day.

Scenario 1: The team places a player making 5 mil on IR.
Result: Nothing changes except it opens a roster spot. The cap situation is exactly the same.

Scenario 2: The team places a player making 5 mil on LTIR.
Result: This also opens a roster spot, but it allows the team to spend up to 103 mil (98 mil + 5 mil), and 515k per day. However, it does not change how much cap space they are accruing. They are still accruing (100 mil - 98 mil) / 200 per day, which is 10k.

Scenario 3: The team places a player making 5 mil on LTIR, then calls up a player making 1 mil. Now they are spending 495k per day and only saving 5k per day. (100 mil - 99 mil) / 200 = 5k

Scenario 4: The team places a player making 5 mil on LTIR, then trades for a player making 3 mil. Now they are spending 505k per day and saving nothing, because they are now using LTIR cap space. With the LTIR in this scenario, they are allowed to spend up to 515k per day, but the extra 10k they aren't using each day can't be banked.

Scenario 5: The team places a player making 1 mil on LTIR.
Result: Nothing changes cap-wise because 98 + 1 is not more than 100. So there's no point in even putting that player on LTIR because players on LTIR are required to be out longer than players on regular IR.

Anyone the Rangers claim on waivers would need to be on the team or waived. If the player is waived and clears, then they could be assigned to Hartford, but the player could get claimed by the team that originally waived them. If that happens, then that team can send the player to the AHL without requiring further waivers.

I think it's too late for the Rangers to waive anyone else before rosters are due, and we are at 23 players, so there's no chance we claim anyone. A trade is possible though if a player they like clears waivers. In that case, then yes, they could send the player to Hartford.

Well, unless they put Blais on IR. That would give them the roster spot for a claim. I don't see it happening, but the option is there.

I understand that Trouba is there because there's no RH shots but jesus christ it'll be miserable to watch.

Yeah but how much time is that unit really going to get? Maybe 40 secs the most? You know the Top unit will get at least a min and change.
