Forwards that are NHL players
Panarin
Zibanejad
Kreider
Trocheck
Chytil
Lafrenier
Kakko
Goodrow
Blais (when healthy)

Forwards that are NHL prospects:
Kravtsov

Forwards that are a dime a dozen:
Reaves
Vesey
Carpenter
Hunt

If our team can’t in-house three forwards better than Carpenter, Vesey and Hunt we have issues.
Even if they average 1o minutes a night, we’re surrendering 1/6 of each game to our opponents.
Could be a long year.
Blais is actually a shortened version of his full name, Blais (when healthy).

What has Goodrow done to be included in team leadership? His A feels more like a charge than a recognition.

So Blais would've matched Vatrano's production had he stayed healthy? And don't we want even more production than that from a 1st line RW?

To the first question, that's not really the point. If Blais is healthy and playing in the lineup, Drury doesn't feel the need to go out and get Vatrano. It's hard to know what Blais would've done in the role. Also, don't forget that Kakko was also hurt when we brought in Vatrano. A lot of our problems with RW depth were injury related, rather than roster construction.

We would have still needed to bring in Copp and who knows how differently that might have gone.

Blais' career high of 15 points makes me doubt that

15 points in 36 games. He can produce at a 3rd line level when he's healthy. Also, it's not like Vatrano is some legit top-6er. The guy is a 3rd liner, through and through. On Florida, he wasn't even that which is why we got him so cheap. There's no doubt we needed him but with a healthy Rangers lineup in March, I don't think acquiring him is a consideration.

People act like most teams 3rd liners produce 60 points. Goodrow and Blais project to score ~30-40 points each when given ice time commensurate with a 3rd liner and if they stay healthy. That's perfectly reasonable for 3rd line production especially when they bring other things outside of scoring (Goodrow's versatility and PKing and Blais' physicality).

Also, for Blais, don't be surprised when he starts the season slow and picks up steam as he goes. He missed pretty much the entire season last year with a major injury

It's perfectly reasonable if you want to be like "most teams," and not win a Cup.

Yeah, Blais is an average third liner (when he can stay healthy, which is not often, another strike against him).

But the role in which he gives us an edge would be as a fourth liner, same as Goodrow.

If Othmann could have earned a spot in the top 9, a Goodrow-Blais-Rydahl fourth line is quite an edge to have on other teams.

Lafreniere Zibanejad Kreider
Panarin Trocheck Kravtsov
Othmann Chytil Kakko
Goodrow Rydahl Blais

I would still try to role with something like that and just put Vesey on the third line.

Of course I agree with you and as the season unfolds, I'm hopeful some of these guys either find a good home as complimentary pieces to higher lines or slide down with someone exceeding expectations but going into a season where the cap is flat and having either one of Blais or Goodrow on the 3rd line isn't exactly what I see as a glaring concern.

Also, Blais injury last year would have happened to almost literally anyone (except Reaves who is like made of steel)

I don't see it as a glaring concern in the sense that I don't think it's gonna cost us a playoff spot having a guy like Goodrow or Blais on the third.

But I don't think our offensive firepower is sufficient enough to win a Cup and I think having Goodrow or Blais on the third line and having that line be more of a grinder line is indicative of that.

If I had three scoring lines and then a line of Goodrow - Rydahl - Blais as my fourth grinder line (which also, playing against fourth liners instead of third liners, can score a little bit more), I would feel way better about our chances matching up against a Colorado.

It's too bad Pat Kane can't be obtained for less than a first (and afforded) cause otherwise I'd be all aboard. I would absolutely have Panarin recruiting him to come take a cheap 1 year deal here for next season.

#NYR lines based on jersey colors:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Trocheck-Kravtsov
Lafreniere-Chytil-Goodrow
Hunt-Carpenter-Vesey -Reaves

Blais doubtful for tomorrow

Glad they are putting Krav back in the lineup, it's the right move for him AND the team. They need to be committed to making him work even if he's not a 60 point scoring stud, he has to be on that line working with Panarin and let Trocheck do the dirty work.

Gah we need Rydahl and Blais back though, that fourth line is ugly.
