Wonder if there's any untapped potential in Joe Thornton? He's skated with the Sharks during training camp and is a former number one overall available for nothing but money.

Calls us soft and makes this team slower. Never won a damn thing and he should shut up. but seriously watch him sign with the Lightning Hurricanes Penguins before the trade deadline to able to compete in the playoffs.

The overreaction to Kravtsov's pre-season games is mind numbing but not surprising here. Just like any prospect he needs time at this level to acclimate to it. Laf, Kakko, Buch, Chytil etc all went through it. I have no idea why people are rooting against him.
At what point do lackluster performances in multiple camps, resulting in demotions, eventual refusals to report to the AHL etc and then being loaned back to the KHL (his choice)... only to return to NA for another lackluster performance here...

When does that become THE story?

When is that THE definition of who he is as a player & not an overreaction?

The way the league is with the tight cap and post-Covid, a lot of these "whoa" waivers aren't as surprising. There will be a lot of maneuvering and intriguing names on the wire.

Honestly? I think 50% of it is that Ed is incredibly annoying

I personally want to see Krav succeed. I truly do. I just have never seen a rookie get treated so unbelievably well on this team since the rebuild. This season especially, glued to bread, given more games than everyone. He was not put on that line to work on his D.

Also, I loved Buch, but he was a boom of a 3rd round pick. If we're comparing a top ten pick from 4 years ago to him, that is bad. I also believe Krav can never be that type of defensive monster. And that's ok for the player he is. I want to see him have a big game tonight and wash away the bad taste which has been his extremely 'meh' preseason.

Maybe he could play one nhl season first? I mean most young players are given a couple years to prove themselves in the nhl, I'd expect nothing less for him. All the back story is irrelevant right now, he's basically starting as a rookie like all other players have albeit at an older age.

this has to be satire lmfao. By all accounts he completely outplayed Kakko in 2019 camp, hell, he outscored the likes of Mika, Kreider, Fox, Strome, etc in that preseason too. He was passed over Kakko solely because of Kakko’s draft pedigree and Kakko got stapled to the top 6 & PP1 to start the season despite being statistically the worst player in the NHL. Laf & Kakko have got every opportunity in the world. Kravtsov has only had 20 NHL games, almost entirely on the 4th line with Rooney & Howden to prove himself.

2019 was Kakko 's first season in the NHL - how could he be the "statistically worst player in the NHL" with him NEVER HAVING PLAYED AN NHL GAME?

Panarin himself, in Brooks' article, said Kravtsov wasn't ready and playing "kids hockey".

Not trying to pick a fight or anything but is this really what we should do?

Just give him an entire season in this lineup and see what happens?

Maybe I've just already concluded that he's gone and really this camp was his Hail Mary last shot... at this point had he made it and proved he should be here I guess I'd view it as house money won.

As such I'm not shocked he's gone

Isn’t the deadline like in March , why would they “save it”
I 1000% cannot say how much I agree with this, and I am not advocating for "saving" a spot for 8 months. With the reluctance to put both Kakko and Laf in the top 6, it either comes down to the team and Laf both preferring LW (but just saying the right things in the media) or ... the team doesn't want to "demote" one of the at the deadline when they trade for someone.

That said, MAYBE, you don't need to trade for anyone if you give them both a shot and they do well. Then you can use 2nd rounder and 3rd round picks to upgrade depth around bottom 6 and 6/7 D.

Again, how will he get comfortable at it if he doesn’t try it in practice and games for a long period of time? I’m not surprised in the least that he wouldn’t be comfortable if he plays one game there and then they switch him back. He needs reps and practice there.
Hey, I totally agree, and now is the time to do it.

what happened to Valimaki? I'd take him over Hajek
I'd put claims in on both Kostin and Valimaki

Yes. That's exactly what we should do. If Gauthier gets like 5 seasons of doing absolutely nothing, then we should give him an actual shot.

Why is Gauthier the roadmap to Kravtsov or more importantly, the NYR success????

Gauthier is as done as can be. Was he handled improperly? Could he have been handled better? How? By cutting him loose sooner? Not dealing for him in the 1st place? Did we ruin his development? Was he doomed to this all along?

I'm asking.

Kravtsov has been given PLENTY of chances both in NA and by letting him go home and do his thing in the KHL... to what end????

He's still the same all-but worthless player he was 2 camps ago

All but worthless? Now I know you're trolling. Farewell.
