i'm just curious, but if we constantly are looking at players that skate on a line with panarin and say they are not effective or whatever, at what point do we look at the guy being paid as a top 3 cap hit and say it is ridiculous this guy needs ryan F strome to be a good player? investing limited cap space in players that actually need others to make them better rather than the big money guys making the lesser players better is just stupid

Laffy needs to make the permanent move to RW... Whether it's with Panarin or Zibs line, I do not care.

The way management has been going about it has been baffling.

Our sputtering 5v5 top6 has been given PTO Jimmy 'Sick' Vesey. How does anyone in the org not see a problem with it?

I think some people dont want to accept that maybe Laf is more comfortable on the Left side. Im sure he will do what he is asked, but Im sure there were internal conversations and he probably said he prefers the left.

I think Kravtsov, and one of our firsts ends up in a package for a big fish for the RW. Not sure how salary and everything works out, but thats not my job to figure it out.

It's baffling.

On another note, they waived Brodzinski instead of Carpenter. 🙄

Could we have afforded Fast at 2 mil with our limited cap space cause we probably should have done that!

Have we ever tried CK on the right side?
He just seems to have a game that shouldn't matter too much which wing he's coming down (and obviously doesn't affect his position on the PP)

Besides him working on it in the offseason, which he did... what about he had some gametime at RW... in the preseason? you know, to get more comfortable.

He doesn't need Ryan Strome to be good but it would be nice for an elite playmaker to have some talent around him to make plays. Lafreniere and Trocheck would compliment him greatly IMO.

the difference between strome and blackwell to trocheck and whoever isnt that big, especially if you subscribe to the thought that trocheck is a better player than strome. at that point you are literally arguing that blackwell somehow made panarin better/more effective

can we stop talking about fast? he didnt want to be here anymore. he didnt want to be in ny/nyc. he wanted a different place to live. it wasnt simply about money with him...

Panarin - Zib - Kakko is the way

Kakko was good with him last season and then Gallant removed him after like 2 games for no good reason

I don't remember that at all, and I swear I watched about 90% of the regular season
Problem solved:
Laf-Zib-CK
PAnarin-Chytil-KK
Blais-Trochek-Krav (until he gets dropped, then Vesy/Goodrow)
They tried the top line of Laf-Mika-CK last year. I think Kreider said enough he wasn't playing on the right (my guess, no proof). They switched Laffy over there after that. I thought both ways looked ok.

It's very clear that if Laf is comfortable on right, the eventual solution is K-Z-Laf, Panarin-Trocheck-Kakko, Blais-Chytil-Krav.

I just wish a Panarin-Zibanejad-Kreider line would work so bad. Then the solution would have been to never sign Trocheck. Promote Kid line to 2nd line, and sign a stopgap 3C to center Blais and Krav.

What can I say, I'm a dreamer.

Now, our top to LW-C combos are basically set at K-Z and Panarin-Trocheck, which don't get me wrong, isn't something to complain about. But, it will cost us Chytil eventually, which is a shame because he's finally starting to put it together. And unless GG shows a willingness to move Laf to RW and both him and Kakko up to top 6 spots, it may very well cost us their development.

That being said, give the kid line ice time and I think their development won't suffer greatly since they play so well together and ooze confidence. But eventually that line has to be split up unless one of the other duos is (not likely) or one of the other duos becomes the 3rd line (even less likely).

With the star power we have it would be near impossible to run the ideal top 9-4th line system of rolling top 3 at ES. Kid Line deserves that, but K-Z and Panarin Trocheck aren't losing ice time to the "3rd line", lets be honest. Add to that that the kids won't see PP TOI since the top unit is set with Trocheck at bumper due to 4 RHS system and a lock for 1:15+ every PP.

Assuming a PP/PK of 3 per game, you automatically lose 12 mins of ES time. Give 8-10 mins to a 4th line and you can cut that down to 38-40. Split that 3 ways and you end up with 16 mins per line in top 9. Ideal, but not likely.

Ah...like I said, one can dream.

I think it's a massive difference. We're talking about stylistically, not comparing stat totals.

What was Strome pre-Panarin? I see a similar growth into Trochecks production because Panarin is that good.

Panarin was a MVP in 2019. His game changed drastically after covid. I feel Strome exacerbated it. He is starting to resemble HARTemi again IMO.

Stylistically, Trocheck and Lafreniere are relentless puck hounds with talent. Panarin’s game benefits significantly with “attacking”players. They will pair nicely with Panarin.

Probably, though there is something to be said for permanent, irreversible damage being done.
Except that’s not the case here. He just sucks and is not suited for the NHL.

Good thing much of the scouting department has been turned over.

It's baffling.

Brodzinski was never making this team so its a moot point.

It hasn't been said here but that zip seems to be back in Panarin's step.

He hasn't gone all out yet, but its a good sign.
it's amazing what going to the middle of the ice can do and not holding and stopping at the half wall

I thought it was in his first game but last night was more of last season. That won't work.

Last night was more a factor of Kravtsov being so bad.

He was weaving through the NZ with out a ton of trouble against a team/system that tries to take that away from you. He could have easily scored a few if not for the iron/him stroming.
