Go back and look again.
  • 2022-23: $82.5 million (firm) this season
  • 2023-24: $83.5 million (projected) next season
  • 2024-25: $87.5 - $88 million (projected) 2 seasons away
  • 2025-26: approximately $92 million (projected) 3 seasons away
Oh, bridge them for a year, and then the cap jumps a little, and there’s more room overall.
But 2 would be better because it jumps even more.
Still a 1 year bridge there’s potentially only an additional 4m in space.

Maybe they split the difference and bridge one guy for one year and the other for two. Just gives them and the player more options

With Jason Robertson holding out and no sign of a contract in sight I wonder if Dallas would revisit the Kreider for Robertson and a 2nd deal they had on the table a couple of years back.
You mean with Ck having a full nmc right now?

Possibly.
The rangers have room to lock Laf up, and while miller should get a longer deal, I think locking Laf up is potentially better than bridging him, especially if he breaks out the way we want this year.

Yeah, but at the same time, with inflation at 8.52% right now -- if it is not quashed really fast -- the NHLPA's debt to the NHL will probably be paid in full for 24/25. Pro teams will always have pricing power.

Ultimately, I don't think we can guess what the cap will be right now, but definitely, with current inflation -- there are possible scenarios that could see the cap go up a lot faster and a lot more than expected.

All day I would do that.

Any combination of events that makes Reaves and Hunt or Carpenter every day players is dumb.

Goodrow - Rydahl - Vesey

Gives the Rangers the best possible 4th line with what they have available to them. I don't know why this is so hard for them.

Sure but I’m realistic and it’s gonna be Goodrow for sure then 2 of Hunt, Reaves , Carpenter

Rydahl has the non waiver option. Maaaaaaybe Carpenter is waived

Vesey is gonna go or signed and waived

Not surprised at all, conceding that he looked good in camp

No room even for the 9 games.

Bank whatever cap space you can for February

You're right. But I'm hoping Rydahl is with the team on opening night. He could be an important part of a winning team. I think he would fit great with Goodrow and Vesey. They'd be a tough, well rounded 4th line with an ability to contribute offensively too.

Rydahl and Vesey still in camp is making me hopeful. I really want these two on the team.

I'm a fan of Rydahl. Love Reavo, and he serves a purpose dependant on the team/tone of the night. But personally, my ideal 4th line after watching camp is Rydahl-Goodrow-Vesey.

Unsure of what then happens with Hunt/Carpenter. But we all know Reavo will either be 4RW or 13th. He won't be waived.

That said, with cap space accrual being a huge potential part of any possible deadline deal this year, I see it much more likely that Rydahl is shuttled NHL-AHL on off days and for certain stretches to build space. In that case potentially Vesey-Goodrow-Hunt with Reaves as extra.

We signed Carpenter early, so braintrust clearly had something in mind for him, but I don't totally see where he fits with Goodrow at 4C. Much prefer Rydahl/Vesey/Hunt as wingers as they are quicker and push pace more

I would waive Hunt, Carpenter and Reaves. And trade Gauthier.
I like Hunt, think he's Vesey-lite. If Reavo needs to be in I go with Vesey-Goodrow-Reaves. Hunt can stay as extra. Carpenter could be important if Goodrows foot isn't 100% as Carpenter would suffice as a faceoff and PK replacement. Not sure I'd want to lose him to waivers.

It's unfortunate the contract situation almost forces the hands of management to demote Rydahl by default, I like his game.

Not even sure what we can get for Gauthier at this point. Not even sure if he qualifies as a reclamation project anymore. If he does, I'd like a similar player in return or a 4th round pick. Lets not forget, a 4th got us Motte last year who was a key player IMO in the run once he returned.

Every draft pick counts, can't pick without em and can't trade em for anything if you don't have em.

It’s nearly impossible to justify both Hunt and Carpenter over Vesey and Rydahl.

Legit question: Would Carpenter get claimed if waived? it's 50/50 I think.
I'd give it lower odds than that,

About a 3rd of the league is operating on LTIR, another couple teams are at, or near the cap ceiling. The rebuilding/tanking teams, not sure they want to improve or at least would not rather play their youth.

It would take a team who wants to keep him on their NHL roster over someone else they already have, most have similar choices as the Rangers where they too are waiving some players. Some will not want to use a contract slot on them.

Similarity for any of the other players they may waive, I'd think Hunt and maybe Gauthier might (still not 50/50) of being claimed, and even then, most teams probably have their own versions of those players.

I'd be slightly more concerned about waiving a decent goalie as Arizona needs one.

Maybe a team that needs faceoff help with depth. I prefer Rydahl and Vesey over Carpenter and Hunt. More scoring upside while defensively responsible

Domingue has to go through waivers? I don’t think he gets claimed unless a team needs some backup depth in the AHL level
