Carolina also didnt score at all in that series. Miss me with the revisionist crap that a different goalie would've changed anything. Especially with noted choker Freddie Anderson, who rumor has it was annoying Canes people because they couldn't get him out of the tub when the chips were down. At least Jarry had the balls to get in the ring against us in G7 against PIT

Dom L's model can say all it wants (and most of it is not inherently wrong, just lacking context) but the way I look at the Rangers is that their core is as good as anyone's in the league, outside of maybe Colorado, and it's not like other teams don't have just as many question mark as we do. The Avs themselves are putting their faith in Alex Georgiev of all people
Carolina are overrated. They got punched in the mouth and did nothing. Brendan Smith was their hero. Then again, it did take us 7 games to take them down, that's right, one of the youngest, least experienced teams in the league, coming back from down in the series. Anyway, Carolina are good, but they are not great, by any means, and neither are we, yet. Carolina's identity is KNOWN, ours is yet to be seen because of our age and lack of experience.

And it's not our core that is the issue. Our core is enviable. It's just that you can't run the core out for 60 full minutes. Colorado are so good everywhere that they barely need a shooter tutor. Our depth last year was so bad that we needed the invisible plexiglass behind Igor that was installed.

ECF last year, team is technically better this year, yet it is STILL a big question mark as to what is actually going to happen. This is a very exciting time to be a fan.

Yeah I was surprised, expectations were the cap was gonna skyrocket after they paid off the debt but instead we are going to see the typical increase. Didn't John Shannon say he thought it would go up almost 10M in 24? He's not the most reliable but based on these projections it won't even go up 10m in 2 years
These I assume are league projections. At some point the players association has to start pushing back. Lots of middle class players are getting squeezed and squeezed out. Teams are unable to fill out their rosters. I think the numbers we’re hearing at the league’s starting point and they’re will be negotiation from there.

Or the players association is in the bag, which is possible too.

Carolina needs to learn how to "pop" when it matters. even before the rangers series they weren't exactly looking fantastic.

The PA doesn’t have an argument till the end of this season, when they find out how far they need to pay back the Covid seasons, and then end the escrow.
But there’s an argument then if the following season, that they’ll have been fully repaid and 0 escrow in the middle of the year that the flat cap needs to go that year.

It is believed the Rangers have reached out to representatives for each of the crown jewels, but it is unclear whether talks are progressing or whether they have been deferred to the offseason. It would be a priority for the Rangers to hammer out extensions with both Lafreniere and Miller as early as possible, as the club was able to do with Adam Fox and Mika Zibanejad a year ago, before the 2021-22 season was three weeks old.

The prospect of negotiating long-term deals should be enhanced by the knowledge that the cap will increase annually and organically beginning in two years. Still, the Blueshirts have to account for next year, for which the club has $65.1 million committed to 11 players, thus leaving $18.4 million with which to sign Miller and Lafreniere (and perhaps Filip Chytil) and fill out the remainder of the roster.

If each would come in on bridge deals at around $4 million per, that would leave the club with around $10.4 million to add nine players. There will be some cutting and pasting next year, for sure.

I miss Torts
I bet the Flyers will turn it around sooner with Torts running the bench. I always was a fan of his. Met him. Nice guy. got my shirt autographed. sadly he was in a rush so no photo and signed for as many as he can as he was going into MSG. such a nice guy to even do that while he was running late cause of NYC traffic. Great guy. Does a lot for charity too. Flyers got a good coach here.

The Flyers are going nowhere fast and Tort's is gonna be the captain at the helm of that.

I like Torts but he isn’t fixing that dumpster fire. They will just look more “respectable” as they continue to lose.

They also are tanking in a year where clearly 10-17 teams are tanking.

That kid seems like the real deal man.

I think you have to be pretty happy the idiot Flyers hired a coach who will demand a worth ethic night in and night out. It should keep them just competitive enough to be out of the category of worst 3 teams. We don’t need them getting their hands on Bedard

regardless of what I think of these models or game score or whatever the f*** the Rangers need their top pick forwards to uhhhhhh actually score. since they don't do that, it is more than fair to say our depth sucks. it very much does.
Lafreniere scored 19 even strength goals. What more did you realistically want him to do with 14 mins ATOI and no PP1 time?

Had he been on PP1 he would have scored near 30 goals and 50 points.

If Gallant isn't a dumbass and puts Lafreniere on PP1, and gets him into the 16-17 min range, the kid is going to score 60+ points.

Torts teams nearly always over perform.

Philly will be good and greatly overachieve imo.

Year 3 and 4 may be a different story

If you give Strome's PP production to Lafreniere straight up (5 goals, 9 assists) Lafreniere is at 24 goals and 21 assists, for 45 points.

Not 50 but still way better.

There seems to be this big focus on boosting Lafreniere’s production. I get it. We all want to see big numbers from a #1.

I’ve said it many times already that Lafreniere at bumper on the power play is not a good utilization of his talents. He belongs on the right wing or in front of the net. Panarin and Kreider are not going anywhere.

This hockey team is better with Trocheck at bumper and Lafreniere on PP2.
