There seems to be this big focus on boosting Lafreniere’s production. I get it. We all want to see big numbers from a #1.

I’ve said it many times already that Lafreniere at bumper on the power play is not a good utilization of his talents. He belongs on the right wing or in front of the net. Panarin and Kreider are not going anywhere.

This hockey team is better with Trocheck at bumper and Lafreniere on PP2.
I kind of liked Lafreniere’s presence on the left wall with Kravtsov as the trigger man on the right for PP2. I think that could develop into a solid threat

These I assume are league projections. At some point the players association has to start pushing back. Lots of middle class players are getting squeezed and squeezed out. Teams are unable to fill out their rosters. I think the numbers we’re hearing at the league’s starting point and they’re will be negotiation from there.

Or the players association is in the bag, which is possible too.

If these are based on league projections there’s a good shot they are on the conservative side. IIRC the league surpassed its projections last year, which is what spurred the talk of the cap increasing sooner than expected in the first place. Can’t worry about it until the numbers are official. We have 100+ games to play before it matters.

I bet the Flyers will turn it around sooner with Torts running the bench. I always was a fan of his. Met him. Nice guy. got my shirt autographed. sadly he was in a rush so no photo and signed for as many as he can as he was going into MSG. such a nice guy to even do that while he was running late cause of NYC traffic. Great guy. Does a lot for charity too. Flyers got a good coach here.

Torts is what Philly needs. They’ve been a country club team the entirety of the Giroux era

This has been repeated ad nauseam, and we know this year will be a repeat - by the time pp2 got set up last year, Laf, Chytil, Kak & Troubs would start to roll and boom the PP is over. PP2 on this team was almost meaningless. It was rather infuriating at times, especially during the games where PP1 was cold (which was rare, but it happened).

Unless things change big time it seems it's troch in the Strome spot. I'm honestly fine with this year being the last year the elite ceiling kids get basically no real PP time.

NHL G.M. PSA:
Don’t Drink and Trade:

Reporter: “Why did you trade fore Cam (Colin Campbell) Connor?
G.M. : “We needed help on the back end and he’s a solid defenseman “.
Reporter: “He’s a forward”.
G.M. : “Next question “?
This many days until opening night:

i looked at that and thought why are you talking about Cam Connor? That’s Don Murdoch.

Those cap projections were a little bit of a disappointment. $87.5M to $88M for 24-25. $92M for 25-26.

I haven’t had time to look at this in detail.

But the message from the get go has been that 22/23, 23/24 and 24/25 would be flat. Then rumblings started that they would even out the cap rise coming when the debt has been paid. In this scenario, about 5m has been added to 24/25. Is this a scenario were they have taken 4-5m from 25/26 and added it to 24/25?

The Ranger’s G.M. Was getting a little “Foggy “ towards the end of his tenure.
One of the last trades he made was Dom Murdock for Cam Connor. The only problem was he thought he was trading for Colin Campbell.
Glen Sather was the Oiler’s G.M.
Karma is a bltch though. Bobby Clarke screwed him with the fine print on the Lindros Trade.
Ranger fans got the bad end of both those deals 😞

That deal would have been a big letdown for Campbell too.

Gustav Rydahl: The 28-year-old center was the biggest unknown among just about anyone that came to camp, having spent the last decade in the Swedish Hockey League. But he’s been a nice little find and doesn’t seem thrown by the smaller North American ice so far. He plays a bottom-six style game, hasn’t been caught out of position much, and is built solidly enough to compete with NHLers. He’s unlikely to beat out Ryan Carpenter for the No. 4 center spot, but through the first week Rydahl has shown the drop-off to the No. 5 center isn’t very far at all. That’s what you need.

I get it. Carpenter has played in the NHL, played for Gallant, was signed to be in Rooney's spot, blah blah blah. But he hasnt won a job. Its been painfully clear (up to this point) that Rydahl has more to offer this team.

Maybe in the end Rydahl will be ahead of Carpenter in the depth chart, since vets are given a longer leash, but both these guys make 750K and it bothers me that certain guys are just inked in at camp due to history. Why have a competitive camp then?

Of course the Panarins and Mikas and Foxs are on the team and tuning up. But the "battle" for the last few spots needs to be real to push the lineup imo. Same reason Kravstov was sent down the year he left. Because he wasnt ready

If the way both are these guys are playing continues its an easy choice. We'll see what happens with all of the waiver wire shit. They probably dont want to lose Carpenter for depth reasons. Would he actually be picked up though?

A 4th line of Vesey-Rydahl-Goodrow is a pretty good 4th line.

Goodrow-Carpenter-Reaves is what its likely to be.

How is anyone actually worried about losing Carpenter and his 26 career goals in 308 NHL games?

How will we ever be able replace that elite level scoring? Or his 48% faceoff percentage? Or his -5 CF% rel?

He's the most replaceable player the Rangers have had in recent years. Even McKegg provided something more substantial.

Just about the most worthless hockey player I've seen in a Rangerd sweater in the last decade.

This shouldn't even be a discussion. Rydahl and Vesey earned spots. Carpenter and Hunt have not.

Still 2 games left before we start seeing cuts to a guy like Carprnter but sure whatever if he’s waived

It's pretty much time for the Rangers to pick, either cut Vesey or offer him a contract. If he does not sign it, it's time to cut him. It's a waste of time to keep Vesey in camp only to either, not sign him, or have him go sign somewhere else at this point. If he wants more than the Rangers will offer in contract, they'll then know by him not signing.

Carpenter has been brutal. Had low expectations and still left disappointed. Would take Brodzinski and Rydahl over him for sure.

Pretty sure he took the league min cause Gallant threw him a bone . He’s fine for vet depth but it’s fine if he’s in the AHL or sitting as the spare

I honestly think that’s the point of a Tinordi or Bartkowski. Cheap vet sitting around Vs a kid

Yeah for real.

Im hoping that hes just one of those guys who needs a few games to get up to speed but I don't like that he was supposedly in a competition for a spot and has been given it bc hes a vet who is familiar with the coach.

Looks like Robertson is going to get cut and he should, along with the other 3 guys on the 2nd and 3rd pair the other night.

Agreed.

Vesey will get a contract offer soon. If not from us, then from some other team.

He took the opportunity and made the most of it. He's played his way to a new one way NHL contract.

I don't agree. You only offer him a contract when his roster spot on opening night is secured. Don't think it's fair to declare that one week into camp.

Im doubful rydahl makes this team this year. I think the 4th line will be Vesey Goodrow and Reaves with Carpenter and Hunt hanging around.

He's going to play with Panarin this year, and this goes back to what ive always talked about, the elite players get to play with who they are comfortable with. Its why Kakko could never stick with line 2 and why Strome played with Panarin. It's because Panarin has input into that decision. Having said that, there's no guarantee that Panarin doesnt move to Zibs line if Trochek isn't a fit for him.
