I could be wrong, but the way those conditions were described to me it was my understanding that if this year's draft pick gets returned for being top 10, we will get their 1st the following year no matter what.
Yes that is true. We would end up with their next years pick no matter what so we would still get a 1st rounder out of them. My point just was if they're THAT bad to consider selling Pavelski (the never sold Klingberg when playoffs weren't guaranteed), they would ask for our 1st instead of theirs because they'd already be getting theirs back. If Jim Nill traded for the pick he was already slated to get back that would be a fireable offense would be basically giving Pavelski away for nothing hahaha.

So we'd end up with 0 1st rounders this year, although we would have 2 next year. If Pavelski helps win cup, its all moot point to the naysayers of moving 1sts when you're contending. To me, if Pavelski is available, get him. Guys legit.

They would pretty obviously just attempt to make the pick conditional on the higher of the two and in the case where they would get the pick back anyway give themselves the choice on the NYR 2023 or DAL 2024.

I have acknowledged that you have the opportunity draft ONE player who is at the top of the talent list. Now you stop ingnoring the fact that your method then denies that same team a chance at the best player after the first round. Maybe a first round talent other teams missed on that they can get at 33 but NOT at the end of rd 2.
Never said it doesnt. All I said is the worst teams still get the very best picks of the draft. The answer you keep ducking.

Would you have proposed this while the Rangers were rebuilding? Aside from our insanely fast rebuild, it takes teams 4+ years to rebuild. I don’t really see the sense in pushing that timeline back further. Some poorer markets may struggle to ever get going again, and before you say that’s not our problem, you know Bettman believes it is.
Yes.

In what world is an about to retire Pavelski getting a 1st round pick??

In the real hockey world. Not HF world. Every year guys get dealt to teams for first rounders. Guys who have zero chance resigning with their acquiring clubs. Assuming he doesn’t fall off a cliff this year, he brings back a one. The only exception I see would be injury or if the market is saturated to an astonishing degree. Pavelski is the exact type of 1st liner you want for a playoff run. He’s been a ppg player the last two years and brings a metric ton of playoff experience. I think it’s moot though because I expect Dallas to be a playoff team.

Yes.
And I keep agreeing but say your plan makes no sense as it still weakens the poor team's draft. Which makes your plan a bad idea. You want me to agree to a small portion of the whole idea which is obvious and irrefutable. Yes, the bad teams get first shat to draft ONE of the best players. After that you would screw them.

Not in round 3, or 5, or 7.

But on rounds 2, 4, and 6 which is the bad idea. We are in agreement that all rounds that have the bad team picks at the top of the round are good. Yay, agreement. The difference is the rounds where you penalize bad teams. That's where I have a problem and where your idea falls apart and unnecessarily penalizes weak teams.

So no need to go around and around again. But I'm here every day and have no reason not to refute you over and over until the mods tell us to stop.

Any GM that parts with a 1st for this guy should be fired on the spot.

ON. THE. SPOT.

The likelihood of a TDL add putting you over the top is very low. Adding a 38 year old doesn't make those odds any better.

It's a fools errand.

How old was MSL when we got him and what did he cost? He had an extra year left on his deal, but still. I didn't agree with the deal at the time, but at least we can say we got a trip to the SCF out of it.

We gave up a 1st, a 2nd, and Barron for Copp last year. Pavelski is a better player. He's easily worth a 1st as a rental. Though why we are even discussing him, I have no idea. Dallas isn't trading him unless they completely fall out of the playoff picture, and I don't see that happening.

Schneider seems so wholesome. Must be crazy being so young playing for a major team in NYC, love seeing the kids embrace the city the way they have.

He's extremely Saskatchewanian lmao, his voice & mannerisms remind me so much of my relatives from there. Must be a huge culture shock going from the middle of nowhere in a corn field to NYC

Hated that trade as well.

Mot to mention the additional year he had on his deal
