Last year at this point we were being outshot, outplayed, Igor was a wall and we were getting bounces and puck were going in.

Right now we are doing the outshooting, outplaying (aside from 3rd period SJ) but pucks aren't going in.

Sucks right now, but we are still 3-1-1, and this game is not over. Long-term, the way we are playing now (aside from cleaning up defense and staying sharp defensively when up by 4 goals) is much more reassuring and sustainable for winning than the start of last season.

Stay calm. We will be fine. The team is too good to not be. We are 3-1-1, we've scored 7 and 6 goals, would have likely scored close to that again if not for Vasy and Hellebuyck, and had a crap loss to a hungry SJ team after a bad period and OT.

Someone wanna patch me through to the Rangers bench to tell them that someone other than Zibanejad is allowed to shoot on the powerplay and they don't need to force a pass to him every time.

An elite PP with 5 threats can become unelite very quickly if you refuse to use 4 of those threats and make the 1 an easy cover.

Prove Trocheck is a threat like Oshie or Point in slot, and suddenly teams will have to respect the 4 players, and Zibanejad will resume being open. Shoot pucks, like they were first few games, and things will be open.

Neglect to have 5 threats and only use 1, and the PP will continue to be futile like the last 3 games

I said before season. Georgiev was better than Halak and so far Halek has proven me right. Hope he proves me wrong but Georgiev did better than him. If shesterkin doesn’t wake up and Halek continues to be bad we are in trouble. I had people saying Halek is way better. Maybe 10 years ago he was not now. Paying him to much to be a back up and not doing anything. Should of went with someone else for cheaper.

Trocheck has the third most shots in the league so far at 5v4.

Georgiev was negative for expected goals against last year. He’s also making more than $3M. Halak is a proven veteran backup who has shown in the past that he’s capable. You may end up being right, but It’s October 24.

Carson Soucy makes a lot of sense

don't know how it would work capwise.

Soucy is a rental so it’s not that big a deal

It’ll be about whatever futures the Rangers want to add but basically you could do Hajek (or someone with a similar contract to Hajek) with picks/prospects and Seattle just retains the rest. Hajek (in this example) is just cap filler anyway.

Georgiev is better than Halak

Georgiev is not 3m better than Halak on a cap strapped team where Igor should be playing the lions share

It’s 2022. There is a salary cap

For the past 10-15 years or so we've had backups that had some aspirations of being a starter in the NHL one day. Some even went on to be just that. Now we have a guy who knows he'll never be a starter again. Wondering if that is going to cost us.

Halak has known he will never be a starter for a least the last half decade. I don’t think this is valid. He knew what his role would be when he signed.

What type of Lehkonens are available?

We need a middle6 energy winger, 2way play would be nice too.

This may be the case but I guess my argument is that you might get more out of a youngster whos fighting for a career over a 37 year old backup who knows he'll never get a starting job again

They’ll get it - At the top of round 1. And they are more likely to be recipients of these 2nd picks from contenders, since they will be worth more.
But not at the top of round two. Which has been the point made that you ignore over and over.

You keep saying some nonsense about them getting those second picks from contenders? How, who it the weak team trading to get top of second picks. you act like it's automatic. No. GIVE then picks and let them trade for lower in the round picks which are more likely to be dealt. Jeez, you're so dense.

I don’t think it’s an already science either way but let’s , for example, take Garand in our system. Yes he may be young and hungry but he’ll be better served getting more games at an appropriate talent level. There is a balancing act. Could go either way. Personally I prefer the guy who knows what his role is and is experienced in fulfilling that. If Halak is finished, then he is finished but when you only have X dollars to spend your options become pretty limited

If it wasn't for the cap I'd imagine Brodzinski would already be here.

Frankly, I've liked the little Brod has shown at 4C more than Carpenter.
