Another K Miller, Kreider, Chytil, Schneider, etc could help them. I like the chances if they have two 1sts.
In 2025? 2026? Whoever they draft in the later part of this draft isn’t being a plus contribution for the Ranger for at least 2 years from the end of this season, or even ever.

In 25-26 We assume Laff, Kakko, Fox, K Miller, Chytil, Schneider, etc will still be on the team, and the players they draft in 2023 could be the up and coming guys, right? Or are they just going to sign the next versions of Goodrow, Hunt, Vesey, Carpenter, etc to fill out the team and do the same thing over and over again?

I'd have to see much more from this years draft. All this hyping is super sus, imo.

Regardless, there will be major! center prospects in the mid 1st rnd.

I'm looking at these USDP kids: Will Smith, Ryan Leonard, Oliver Moore. Hope they don't go top 10.

In any case, way too early to tell.

Huge "f*** no!" to Patty Kane, keep the two picks and use them both.

I cant tell you what the team looks like then but I can tell you for shit sure whoever they draft this year isnt helping them win a championship in 2023 or 2024.

I guess I need to be prepared. Every time the 7D or back up goalie plays, there will be bitching. You'd think longtime fans would realize that the whole roster doesn't play all 82, that younger players are eased into the HL grind, that coaches like to get everyone a game so they're not stale in case of injury.

But no, everytime there will be complaining and questioning the coach. Whether it's game 3 or game 53.

It's not like GG isn't doing what all the other teams do.

What is our own #32 pick worth?

Really depends on the kids and what scouting you look at. If the draft is in fact deep, it's great value.

Imo, if we trade a pick, which we will, since we'll be in the hunt and can't help ourselves/ actually might need help on D for a deep run, it will be our own pick (#26-32).

Never too early to be looking ahead
We will need replacements for Pan, Tru, Mika, Kreids, tro etc..
And this draft is a great time to start
You keep both picks and hope both were the right picks
Also hope we get lucky with later picks and in future drafts as well
Every team needs good players on ELCs
Im hoping they nab at least 2 Cs in 23 and another in 24
I like our W prospects
But still zero Cs and no RD with Nils gone
Unlike some i dont believe Kane puts of over the top
We win the cup only if we stay healthy, the kids keep getting better and Pan and Tru dont choke come POs

Okay, yet what if they do not win a championship in the next 2 or 4 years? Wouldn't it be a good thing to have a new set of players coming up who maybe could help the youth they have now, who will be older then, maybe win one? Or are they just going to sell off mostly everything and rebuild again? Or will they just retool for the next decade or four decades and not win any championships?

There 2 sides on every fence.

Most people either love VK or dislike VK. Not many posters stand in the middle, and why would you.

I thought he was one of the steals during the draft but didn't well in camp and then took his ball and went home. Not the best way to handle this situation. Played well in Russia and seemed to mature, came back over and made nice with Drury and the team. Breadman taking him under his wing had me thinking again this could be a steal not only playing on the second line but under a good contact leaving additional room for the team to improve.

Now going out on your second shift and getting injured not great and all of the negative creeps back in. Talent is there and playing on the fourth line is not the answer, and if that's the plan when he comes back, he'll just be a trade chip.

Former first round pick# 9 with the value of a second pick? third pick? Let him get healthy one last time and play him on the second line for 25 games with Bread, then if it doesn't work then put him in a package to max his value.

As you can tell I'm on the side of love the kid but I'm going to admit patience is wearing thin.

We all know Detroit love VK during the draft so maybe a package of VK and 2nd would work for Bertuzzi who would really be good on the third line with Chytil, can the team afford Bertuzzi (doubtful) or let him walk just like Copp.

The rangers have replacements for Panarin potentially in Laf.
Kreider in Othmann
Trouba in schneider.
Chytil if he maybe takes 2 more steps, could be a mika replacement but thats a bigger if than anything else on this list.
While constantly trading away draft picks is unsustainable, its also unsustainable to assume that you're always going to draft players. No team has ever done anything with 100% drafted talent.

No, but they could help continue to fuel the jet deep into the late 2020's and into the 2030's

TDL acquisitions rarely, if ever, push a team over the top.

We just wasted a 1st for a failed attempt.

Not interested in doing that again.

Yes I think in this cap world, like most teams competing for a cup, they will be signing veterans on cheap short term deals to fill out the bottom 6. And before anyone points to the Goodrow contract, that had more to do with timing and situation. The organization wanted to start to transition the team, the culture, the environment, to get the team to the next phase of this. They paid more for that. But now that they are in that next phase of competing year in and year out around a specific core, the bottom 6 will be cheap vets or kids on ELCs.

In 2-3 years the top 6 could* look like this:

Kreider-Zib-Kakko
Lafreniere-Trocheck-Othmann

Even if Kreider is gone, they probably slide in a vet there. Maybe Kravtsov does take off. Maybe Chytil is here and gets elevated to a wing position. There are internal options and there will always be external considerations whether some like it or not. I think the point stands that a mid-late 1st round pick is not helping this team next year for sure, in 24-25, or maybe not even 25-26. Yes the Rangers have had success drafting late in the 1st round but that does not mean this time around it will be a success yet again. The Rangers are ready to compete right now. Even last night when looking sluggish due to the circumstances, they were in that game and the goalie kept Winnipeg from losing the game. Whether its Patty Kane, an ROR type, or whomever, they should consider trading their own 1st. I would not trade the DAL 1st. I would also consider their 2024 1st instead of one of their (2) 1sts this year

Not if it's because they didn't win a championship because they hed onto the picks and didn't get the player needed to put them over the top. See, it can play both ways. Always looking down the road and missing out on opportunities is frustrating.

I like Laf with Panarin and Trocheck, and I think Kakko is fine where he is. It's a lot of firepower in the top-6, and it is going to be hard for opposing teams to match that.

Chytil is coming around, and I think one of Blais or Goodrow would be good on that line, but I'd like a little extra offensive firepower that could pop through now and again. Hopefully that's Kravtsov, but if there's a deal that makes more sense, then hey...

Hopefully we can find that Bunting or Roslovic who is blocked but otherwise hasn't lived up to their abilities yet.

Dallas looks pretty busy, roster and cap-wise, and Kiviranta hasn't matched that first season. Wonder if he or Peterson could be an option for us.

Donato with Seattle could be a guy to look at, and Kolesar looks blocked out in Vegas.

Noah Gregor. Had a higher expected goals than he ultimately ended up with last year. Looks like he's doing the right things.

I fully expect drury to go after Kane but I think the secondary option (whether on top of Kane or if they can’t get the Kane fit) would be a deal with the devil(s) assuming they’re not in the playoff picture and go after miles wood. Could solidify the third line over good/vesey and plays the gritty style with skill that drury likes.

How about signing Thomas Hickey to a contract for the rest of the season, who just had a PTO for the Devils and wasn't signed by them? Can't be worse than Libor Hajek?

I am not sure we could get Miles Wood but he's the kind of player we should be looking to acquire at deadline. A strong, fast player who can move up and down line up. Would love someone with speed who can get in on forecheck in the playoffs and win board battles.
