Brooks is right. Even a broken clock is right twice per day.

These little injuries eat away the Rangers available cap space.
Yep. Having to carry 14 forwards because 1 or 2 are questionable on any given day is a problem.

Under the current rules, you can only LTIR a guy to bank cap space if he's expected to miss at least 10 games and 24 days. "Day to day" is the capologists worst nightmare.

Probably higher than 4.5. But there is a lot of talk like Miller has proven he is a 6 million dollar defenseman. Miller as of yet has not scored enough to prove he is a 6 million dollar defenseman. May I ask what Miller has done to demand so much more money?
If Miller can get 4 mil per on a 2 year deal, why would he take less than 6 on a long term deal? If Samuelsson had taken a 2 year deal, his AAV would be 2 mil or less.

It's about earnings potential. The cap is going to start going up in a couple years and Miller's value is only going to go up as he gets into his prime. The long term deal made sense for Samuelsson as he's unlikely to make much more by taking a short term deal now and hoping for a bigger payday down the road. The same can't be said about Miller.

It's moot anyway since we can't afford to give Miller a long term deal.

LTIR doesn't enable teams to bank cap space.

I really don't think a blockbuster trade for Kane as a rental is a viable option in the cards regardless.

I think you're looking at a guy making maybe 2-3.5 mil at the TDL.

As for next offseason, why even bother worrying about that. We just kicked off a new campaign and we're gunning for a cup. Time to live in the now.

Who is that guy in your avatar?

Because people need something to worry about. There are some that are worried about what the cap situation is going to be 5 years from now.

That's Kane with double retention, which is the only way he's getting traded to any team.

I'm not even sure Kane is going to be the focus come TDL. If I'm seeing a clear weakness on this team, its someone who can put pucks in the net at ES (thats not Kane.)

The PP will be great, the PK should be pretty good (if not great bc of Igor) and I'm really bullish on our top 6 D and think that as long as they stay healthy, it can certain be considered championship level once certain guys get more experience/reps.

If they can score more 5v5, they're going to be a problem and thats where I'd imagine their focus will be but they won't try to bargain bin fix it with Vatrano (who did a fine job for what he is) this time around.

Somehow Brooks ignored Kakko being out for months, and Blais practically the entire season, while talking about how injury free the NYR were last year...

Blais' 1.6 million is going at the deadline for sure. Drury gambled on his first big trade and lost because the guy he targeted couldn't stay healthy. It is what it is. No reason to cry over spilled milk.
Maybe. Maybe not. He could have a great season. He could be on LTIR. Who knows?

Can't the Rangers make a paper move and waive Hajek to free up some space and recall him if he's needed? Unless the Rangers know for sure he'd get claimed don't see why they don't do that.

Is there a rule if you are waived and demoted that you have to start playing with the minor league team after a set number of days?

Or may be after he clears "demote" Hajek on the non game days and recall him on the game days.

He has to clear waivers. He won’t clear waivers.

They did bring in a rule where the player has to actually report if demoted.

I saw Hockey Stat Miner on twitter speculating that they may do this with Jones & Schneider on off days to bank cap space because they are the only waivers exempt players. They did it the covid year with some of the ELC guys IIRC. Hajek stinks but we are so thin a D they cant risk losing him.

Ugh... this really stinks for younger players as it lowers their pay significantly.

But it's perfectly fine. This organization has a proven track record where we know young kids will do anything to play here and never ask for a trade...

right?.... right?

Yeah if only we still had Lias Andersson, Brendan Lemiuex & Julien Gauthier here, we'd really be aces. At least Nils trade request was rooted in some logic that he was blocked by better players. Even Kravtsov surely is regretting his. The trade request stuff is so overblown. Players love playing in NY
