Didn't see enough of Krav to form an opinion on his play tonight, but I know Laf looked good on the wing the rest of the way. Depending on how long Krav is out, Laf could take ahold of that spot and not let go. Think 13 could have his 1st 20 goal season no matter which line he plays on, but playing on that 2nd line could bring his assist totals up and match Kakko's 50 points I'm expecting.

Not sure where Blais fits at this point when he's healthy (if he ever stays healthy). Maybe 3W with Chytil and either Krav or Laf, depending who ultimately gets that 2RW spot.

Honestly don't know who would come out of lineup. Assuming Goodrow 4C Carpenter scratch would be first move.

I'm sure if Krav is back for Thursday, he'll get another shot on the 2RW, but time is definitely ticking if theres a willingness from team and Laf for him to play RW on that 2nd line. Krav will still be top 9 regardless, it's nothing to lose sleep over for him or for the team, but I think this will definitely be an interesting internal competition to watch for. Only going to make the team better if either of them grabs ahold undoubtedly of that spot.

Hawks are gonna want Othmann and that's where I hang up the phone. Kravtsov Robertson would be my offer.
If Hawks are stuck on othmann you hang up immediately, for sure.

I'm fine sending our 1st, Krav and either a prospect or another pick to them

I'd hold off on moving Robertson. Not to look to far ahead, but he's easily our most NHL ready, cost-controlled option for next year, where I believe we may see Lindgren become a cap casualty to the impending Laf and Miller extensions. Especially if we don't get them locked up soon, because I think they are both about to take big to monster steps forward.

Miller Trouba pair could stay intact and potentially take tough minutes from a likey Fox-Roberston pairing while Robertson gets acclimated to NHL. He'll be fine physically, you'd just look for more him being able to handle speed. Jones and Schneider looked good tonight. Jones won't play with Fox, players are toon similar, so I think we'd see him and Schneider stay together.

Interesting longshot potential would be a Miller-Fox pairing with Robertson playing with Trouba. Not sure I like the footspeed or lack thereof on that pairing, but man would it be a mean pairing. Think the team is best suited with Miller with Trouba and Lindgren/replacement with Fox.

Of course, if Lindgren will be back and we choose to clear salary elsewhere (Goodrow?...these are the only 2 options I see), this is all a moot point, and I'd be fine with Krav+Robertson+pick

Laf/Krav and Kakko may prove we don't need a top 6 RW, but I absolutely wouldn't say no to Kane ... if he comes at OUR price on OUR terms (would be him forcing it), not at Chicagos price.

Anyways, no need to get that far ahead to TDL or offseason ... this was a great opening night win. Don't remember the last time I genuinely felt this excited to open a season...maybe before 2014-2015? Lets enjoy this season, I have a good feeling about this team.

I dont understand the love for Carolina. Every "expert" is putting them in the category with Colorado & Tampa Bay. How many different teams have to expose them in the playoffs before we realize they are overrated? I think they overcorrected on experience because of how immature they looked in the playoffs against us. Zero road wins in 2 7 game series.
Their coach is ripped.

I feel Mika has the talent to score 50 goals and 100 points. Could this be the year? Does anyone else he can do this?
For the 100 points he'll need Kreider to keep up his scoring pace, or atleast stay at 40+ pace and not fall back down to 28. The addition of a legitimate RW who can control play, retrieve pucks and keep possesion in Kakko (not to mention his improved shot should result in more goals), and I don't think it's impossible.

He's always had the potential to be a 50 goal scorer, and he may finally have the complete line at the right time in his career to match that with an assist total. It seems like he's avoided the slow start that has put him behind the 8 ball on the 50 goals or 100 points in the past. It's scary how good he was tonight. Can't expect him to be this dominant every game, and he shouldn't need to be with all our other talent, but boy if he is ... that sure helps us alot

At this point hes an all situations scoring threat, defensively responsible, point-per-game #1C that we never had during Lundqvists era of contention. We never had a Fox like Dman during his contention window. Never had a point producer like Panarin. Never had a dman with the upside and raw potential of Miller.

Shesterkin has been blessed with the things that held Lundqvists teams back from being great infront of him. If the kids (kakko/laf/krav/schenider/jones/miller/chytil) can all continue what we saw tonight and in playoffs into this season, we may have the mix of top end talent and cost-controlled talent to actually go all the way. I don't like to get myself hyped up for the disappointment, and all this isn't just from game 1, its from last playoffs and tonight, but this team could be THE team.

I won't outright say it, but you know what I'm saying. Hard not to be excited

Yes I think Kreider comes down to 30 goals while Zib hits 45+ and Kakko sees a huge bump. I said 30+ in another thread but keep forgetting he’s not getting PP goals so that’s going to be tough.

The problem with Rooney was that he was not good on defense or the PK. So in essence, he wasnt good at anything

I mean, at league minimum he'd be better than Carpenter, no?

I'll quibble over the entire 1.75M plus the extra cap we have to spend to keep another forward on the roster since he isn't good enough to play regularly.

So that's $3M we could make better use of.

You need 13 forwards. He's paid $1m over league minimum. Let's say hypothetically we traded him for future considerations once Blais is healthy instead of waiving Hunt. That only saves us $1m, not $3m.

Unless you mean TDL space, in which case yeah, that's upwards of $4m space at the deadline. But you can't spin it as $3m "right now."

Carpenter had a pretty good game last night. It's only 1 game, but he was 3 out of 4 on faceoffs and had an assist. Rooney was 44.8% on faceoffs last year and signing him to league minimum wasn't an option, so it's a moot point.

People are going to hate Carpenter all year because he's incredibly boring to watch, but somehow still always gets results. Tampa literally had 1 shot attempt with him on the ice, and he and Reaves made good plays down low on the forecheck on Goodrow's goal. He's boring but effective and won't get played higher in the lineup. It sucks he lost the 5v3 faceoff that led to a goal, but it happens sometimes. Don't really know what else you want from a 4C who's only going to get like 8 or 9min/game

Carpenter is actually good at defense and limiting chances. That 5on3 faceoff was a glaring loss but he was solid nonetheless.

Rooney is not good at offense or limiting chances on defense. He was below average on faceoffs too. He cost $1.3M

Carpenter is a much better role player... ( Late game defense, PK, faceoffs etc ). and cheaper.

Bridging Miller, and to a lesser extent Lafreinere, rather than signing them to long-term deals that incorporate RFA years (and don't expire at 27/28) is exhibit #9000 explaining why the NYR rarely have good contracts on the books and are one of the worst teams in the league at performance per cap $ since the hard cap was implemented.

This time more than usual they get somewhat of a pass due to the flat cap situation. But it's deeply imbedded in their culture of squeezing every penny out of today at the expense of decisions that benefit even the short/medium term future.

Not totally enthused by trading for Kane, but hard not to imagine what he might look like with Panarin & Trocheck. That is a Cup winning top 6 with our defense and goalie. Krav, Blais, 1st. We will see if all the chatter is hot air or if Drury wants to really go for it this year.

I think Miller actually gets a similar contract. 4.5 x 7 would be good.
There's zero chance that happens. Miller is worth significantly more than Samuelsson. Miller would get 6+ mil on a long term deal, which is why he will be signed to a short term deal.

It certainly caused our last window to end a year or two quicker than it should have.

Of course it's hard to say how the 13-14/14-15 teams play out with a different cap situation
