I don’t blame the zibby trade proposals but man if you would have told me before we shut everything down that we would be talking about trading this guy 11-12 months later I would have told you that you were crazy. And not even in trade deals for Eichel
His season last year was enough to look past his injury history and age at the back end of the next contract. He lost camp, dealt or is dealing with covid effects, experiencing a regression season, and something else like confidence or an extreme case of rust. I think it's just cold feet at this point. Are we ready for this level of commitment? If we are sliding into Eichel's DMs, I think we already know the answer.

It is amazing how far Mika has fallen. Now it’s what 17 games? Hardly the biggest sample size but he’s got 35 or so games to prove he’s the guy he was last year. The Rangers cannot be asked to pay 10 mil a year on an ext this summer based off what he’s doing. He’s going to be the biggest reason we miss the playoffs

Hope Danault is in play this season or this summer. As far as a young Stepan goes, he's pretty close to that. And coming of a down-season he might be gettable at a number we can work with.

At 6 years, 6AAV?

He already turned down 6/30

Heres your periodic reminder that Zibanejad has a NMC and isn’t going anywhere

Here's your periodic asterisk to the above.

A NMC doesn't exist to prevent a trade, it exists to give players final approval/veto over a trade.

Player's don't want a NMC because they love the team they are signing with, they want a NMC to make sure their next team isn't Buffalo. :sarcasm:

Here's your periodic reminder that Zibanejad has been a corpse all season with no signs of improvement whatsoever,is barely an NHL player at the moment, and also isn't going anywhere.

Not during the season at least. I can see him being moved if the team really wants Eichel. 3way deal could make sense or a sign-n-trade if he doesn't mind going to Buffalo.... or Miami :naughty:

Strome seems to be taking a 'leader' role... as weird/sad as it sounds. Zibs has been MIA in every aspect.

The bobbled passes and overskating the puck in the D zone that thankfully Fox squared away during the Boston games are troublesome.

I wonder, as COVID is a relatively new phenomenon, what the affects are to someone with concussion history? Especially athletes where there is such a fine line between tiers of players and how tuned their bodies are.

I don't think its COVID actually, I do think its concussions. I saw what happened to Lindros very late career and the game sense was there but the hand eye completely abandoned him. Looks a lot like Mika's deal. Also fits with Mika avoiding contact at all costs. Just my opinion. I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I don't expect him to be the guy he was last year, just the guy he was the season before that, where he scored 74 in 82 games.

I guess its time for that periodic reminder that players waive NMCs all the time in trades. Usually if a team wants to trade a player, that player doesn't really want to stick around. Though I'm sure playing for the (checks notes) 25th place overall rangers is fun, it seems like there is opportunity for other pretty good situations out there as well.

We clearly have a fetish for players that were Captains in Buffalo.

I’d cough up a big package for Eichel. We’re at that point. If we can flip Zib for a solid 2B+ to cover until Chytil is ready for that spot, that’s something I’d explore. If we can land Eichel.

For me it’s Fox, Kakko, Laf as the only non starters. Shesty is close but goalies have proven to be less valuable than any other position and teams win with mediocre ones. Binnington, Murray, heck Cristobal Huet. Miller is also close and I’d prefer not to move him.

If we could swing a big package of futures + Strome’s salary I’d cough it up. We have a solid pipeline and the roster will improve with experience.

I’d see about flipping Zib + Gauthier for Backlund + Bennett and a plus from Calgary. Backlund is a perennial 50 point pace who is solid defensively and can play 2nd line minutes until Chytil graduates. He has 4 years remaining so he could be a great 3C when Chytil takes the reigns, or we could flip him.

Panarin - Eichel - Kakko
Lafreniere - Backlund/Chytil - Buch
Kreider - Chytil/Backlund - Bennett
Lemieux/Howden/Blackwell/PDG/Barron
Miller - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Robertson - Schneider
Shesterkin

That gives us room to subtract Zib, Strome, Gauthier, one of Buch/Krav, Lundkvist, picks. If Zib and Gauthier go to Calgary, we can still put together a solid package for Eichel. Given what the lineup would look like we could afford to move some prospects.

Good to see that the COVID list is at a low point.
only thing lower is Mika's value atm.

Here's the plan: Trade for Eichel in the offseason. Run Eichel and Zibanejad as 1-2 down the middle for next season. Mika continues to suck: extend him for cheap in 2022 or just let him walk. He bounces back and prices himself out of NY: trade him for a massive haul next February. Badabing badaboom

No one wants to stay where they are not wanted. Unless they are about to retire or something drastic

Marian Hossa was a huge part of completing the dynasty esque team that was the Blackhawks of 2009-2015. He didn't sign there till his age 31 season. We don't need to overpay to make a huge move for a player right this second. I have zero inclination of dealing a quintessential piece of the future for a very expensive (player cost and cap hit) malcontent.
