A Howden for Bennett deal, if on the table, would be my preference at this point. Not because I think Howden doesn’t become a nice 3rd or 4th line player somewhere, but because I think Bennett would check a few more boxes over the next 4-5 years.

sure but the cap hits don’t even out and that’s the problem. Would have to work in another contract like Smith at 50

Bennett was appealing for the day or two it looked like we could get an NHL body in for DeAngelo after whatever...that was. But if they've been sitting on trading the guy since the beginning of the season, I don't think they do it for Brett Howden, maybe a late pick and maybe a cap finagle.

Howden for Bennett would be a coup, just to take Quinn's pet away from him.
I've run out of Brett Howden excuses. He's a tweener at this point on a team that's beyond weak at center. Especially going forward.

Would love to see where we are league wide at points per game at the center position this season.

Eh, I don't expect you to comb through the teams and correct it, but NHL is notorious for listing players at the wrong position. We have 29 points by our Cs this year - NHL.com had Blackwell and Brodzinkski listed at C and they have 9 points total.

Just checked STL since I was surprised they're that high. It's because NHL.com is listing guys like Kyrou and Hoffman at C

The Rooney and Blackwell signings were good, as was PDG the year before. We’ve done well in acquiring top and bottom line talent, but still have a middle-six depth problem that will lead us to lose more games than win.

What’s a realistic package fans would be comfortable with for Eichel

This seems like the end of the road for him in Buffalo

It's one or the other

Buchnevich+Chytil+Robertson+1st is probably a starting point for Adams to at least pick up the phone. They will ask for others though

I would be comfortable with giving up basically anyone except Fox and Laf. Would like to keep Chytil since we have no one in the pipeline behind him to replace him. Kakko, Schneider/Nils/Miller, Strome/Buch, 2021 1st. It's a lot of value but I think it's worth it. Then trade Zibanejad to recoup some assets.

Brett Howden needed to spend a year or two in the A and it really shows.

It’s like the team was so unaccustomed to having young players that they didn’t know how to recognize if they needed to play down a level.

Honestly we’re probably looking at kakko, Robertson/ Hajek 1st and Smith ( salary) going there way. I would say Strome but I doubt we move him. They would keep him as a 3C

honestly it’s a tough call. I think over the next 5 years even if kakko tops out as a 80-90 pt wing, we have an easier time to replace that then a 80-90 pt center. Especially with free agency

We need to just win the 1st OA pick and have that to give ourselves a discount for Eichel.

I don't really think they're a Jack Eichel away from making noise, considering what it would cost. I kind of look at it as a way of necromancing last year's Mika.

Even the pick next year is probably going to be top 10. I'd be fine with leading the package with K'Andre, Nils, Shesty or the pick, but I wouldn't want to move two of those pieces and I wouldn't want to move Fox, Kakko or Laffy.

Some of the problems with this team are already in the process of being fixed. Top 6 players, Kakko and Lafreniere, possibly Kravtsov. Defensemen...we got lots of prospects. Center ice is the only hole at this point and i have confidence we will fix that if we need to when all the other pieces are in place. The biggest issue is patience with the build, I don't think we are as bad as our record right now, we have a lot of things going wrong, Zib covid or injured, covid with Kakko, Chytil and Trouba out and Panarin dealing with a crazy russian, but there was no way we were a cup contender by any stretch of the imagination this year. Im sure someone will say stop making excuses but missing 2/3 of your best line, your top pair dman and a center on a team needing centers is gonna hurt the team.
