Brind'Amour would be a great get as a coach, sure, but doesn't he absolutely hate the Rangers? I believe he's on record stating as such somewhere. I don't think he'd jump ship from a division rival coaching a great team in a contention window, a team that he spent a lot of his playing years with, to go to a bigger market with an inferior team and a volatile owner.

Just doesn't made sense from his point of view to come here.

Bryan Trottier also hated the Rangers. Theo Fleury hated New York and the Rangers. Money talks.

Wow that’s a good point. Do prospective candidates for the Rangers Head Coaching job take that into consideration that the owner could be unstable/unstable situation? George Steinbrenner comes to mind.
It apparently was on Jim Montgomery's mind when he was thinking about the Rangers' vacancy three years ago, that's for sure.

I’m sorry but why do people talk about Montgomery like he is the second coming of Scotty Bowman on here?

If he could handle Dallas he can’t handle New York. He has a similar track record as Quinn. He is not an upgrade. They need to do better than that.

People also need to get the Brind’Amour idea out of their heads. That had a negative percent chance of happening regardless of what is going on with the Rangers.

Not at all the point I'm making, unless you're just throwing out the general thought. I agree with you, by the way.

Your argument is “if he couldn’t coach in sleepy Dallas without turning to booze, there’s no way he could handle NY”. That’s horseshit.
It’s not. I’m also not going to argue about this further. If you are an alcoholic is one state, you will be an alcoholic in another state. Either way his CV isn’t good enough to be worth dealing it.

Patrick Sharp giving the Rangers a bit of a poke regarding how they responded after Wilson rag dolled Bread.
Hes isn't impressed with the reaction. He did say that he gives all due respect to those who dropped the gloves, but as a team the Rangers need a lot of work. Interesting words.

Reading through these threads and getting caught up since I was away is almost as depressing as watching this team actually "play"

I hope Drury knows what he's doing because I've been on rudderless ships before and things go bad, VERY quickly and VERY harshly

Top center blue chip prospect and a 1st? Anything else would be a overpayment. Also important to remember Eichel wants out. That definitely effects his value.
Well Zibanejad doesn't have much value to Buffalo, so that's a strike right there. But Eichel at 5M for 5 years would have huge surplus value that would raise the acquisition price substantially. More than what you have thrown out there.

I will say it is an interesting premise as far as Buffalo retaining. Is it possible they would retain a more realistic number? 1-2M or so.

Yeah, look we are really marinated in this. Our strongest response — of which our coach “couldn’t be more proud” — largely constituted of dropping the gloves with Carl Hagelin and Lars Eller, and basically not being able to do any damage.

If anyone want to hurt a rival long term you just take runs against our top guys like Martin did with Trouba. If you want to throw us of our game, go after Ziba and Panarin. You risk absolutely nothing.

Nothing short of an over-correction will suffice.

In addition, while the league is getting super soft overall — the teams around aren’t, NYI and Washington. We must be able to go toe to toe with them physically, to restore whatever chance we ever have of becoming respectable again.

I’d really push for %25 percent. 7.5 mil for Eichel ain’t bad at all.

Also I doubt all buff wants is prospects so we can offer a player of lesser value but with some nice complimentary pieces.
