And what are the downsides? Why isn't he employed atm?

His teams don't have structure. From all accounts I've seen he's a glorified cheerleader. If the team had a good core of veteran leadership like in the AV Era then it might make more sense, but this team is one of the youngest in the league.

The change in gms is not going to have any effect whatsoever on the DeAngelo situation.

Consider me on team Gallant for the next coach

First question Drury is going to ask potential candidates:
"Is Kravtsov a 4th liner?'

The correct answer:
"Ask the coach we are going to trade him to."

Has Brandon Sutter been brought up as an option? I don't care what his father did against the Rangers 35 years ago. I care about faceoff %, leadership, grit.

Brandon Sutter is the guy who gave Cherepanov a concussion in the preseason game, thus ruling out any chance he could have made the team.

Oleksiak and Goodrow are my guys as UFA’s for sure. They fill niches for this team over the next 2-3 years and can be good identity guys in the locker room. I’d be just fine bringing back Smith on a 2- year deal for $1.5m per season if he’ll take it.

Beyond that, Zibanejad is the guy I would move to find a good young center prospect and futures. Krebs + LV 1st is what I’d love to see.

Buch to EDM has always made sense to me. Finding a package in return has always been the concern. Maybe EDM would move Broberg. Khaira is an interesting depth player with size.

Once those deals are done I’d concentrate on Larkin

Is there any chance at all that the Hurricanes and Rod Brind'Amour don't agree to a new contract? He's at the tippy top of my wishlist.

But if not Brind'Amour, I'm still on the Gallant bandwagon
Maybe he checks in with the Rangers before he signs back in Caneland .If he is that good....how could they possibly compete with us in this regard ? What's stopping us from floating a number via a Brooks story that will catch his attention . What does he make right now in Carolina ? Rangers got money to write letters...surely they will pony up for a decent coach ? Seems like a no brainer .

Brind'Amour would be a great get as a coach, sure, but doesn't he absolutely hate the Rangers? I believe he's on record stating as such somewhere. I don't think he'd jump ship from a division rival coaching a great team in a contention window, a team that he spent a lot of his playing years with, to go to a bigger market with an inferior team and a volatile owner.

Just doesn't made sense from his point of view to come here.

I'd completely disregard him being fired from Florida as a mark against him as they really had no idea wtf they were doing at that time. If you think the Rangers situation right now is a cluster, it looks tame AF compared to what was going on with the Panthers.

The Vegas situation does give me a slight bit of pause but not too much.
On its own I don’t make much of FL but together it’s a little weird

I remember Pierre LeBrun saying that Seattle was close to hiring Gallant as far back as last fall. They still haven't named a head coach. Vegas hired Gallant in April, two months before the expansion draft in 2017. The expansion draft this year is in July. Could be that the guy Francis wants is still coaching and he's waiting for the season to end or his team to get eliminated from the playoffs.
Rod Brind'Amour?

Well..he was just hired by the World's greatest hockey power to coach the team at the World championships.....He must have something going for him . I really doubt there was a "thing" that had him fired twice . GM's fire coaches....some even fired them in the last week of a season before they won a Cup...some got fired after they won a Cup....coaches get fired at times when the views between the GM and the coach don't always see eye to eye. If you want to stay you bow down and tow the line but if you are a believer in your own skills and ways then chances are you follow and practice your own beliefs.....and that could get you fired easily enough in the right spots . Players love Gerard Gallant . Maybe Gallant can be that guy that lures Barkov away from Florida as a UFA signing for us....that is worth thinking about.

Rod Brind'Amour?
Well there's obviously a familiarity there between Francis and Brind'Amour. But man, Carolina is going to win the division and looks primed for a deep playoff run. Seems like a bad move for them not to retain Brind'Amour, but Carolina did let the GM Waddell interview for the Minnesota job even though he was a finalist for GM of the year so there's that. They did give Waddell an extension shortly after he interviewed with the Wild though so in the end they did keep him.

I've read last night people mentioning Tocchet being a guy Seattle is interested in.

John McLean skates away from Niklas Sundstrum behind the rest of the play during a Rangers/Devil playoff game. Sundstrum’s arm gets broken. Refs/Linesmen don’t see it. It’s in a part of Garden Ice that had no camera view. No penalty, no retribution and no retaliation. Two years later McLean finally gets his. Glen Sather signs him as a free agent while Sundstrum is still on the team. Message sent.
Donald Brashier skates across the ice away from the play in a Rangers/Caps playoff game. Brashier blindside hits Betts, concussing him and knocking him out of the playoffs. The next season Glen Sather rewards Brashier by signing him to a Rangers contract.
What message did this send to the Rangers players at the time? What does this say about Glen Sather as the head of that organization? So sad.

Wow that’s a good point. Do prospective candidates for the Rangers Head Coaching job take that into consideration that the owner could be unstable/unstable situation? George Steinbrenner comes to mind.
