I mean where does Anderson play? Which young winger gets pushed to the fourth line to play another veteran? Bennet plays, what, 3C and Chytil gets even less than the minimal time he gets now? This is what I mean. The next step for this team, it seemed obvious to me, was to ensure that guys like Laf, Kakko and Chytil could adjust well enough to replace guys like Buch and Strome, then move those guys for real bottom 6 players plus assets and bump the kids up. Right now is a very awkward in between phase, not a final or close to final product by any means

See and there in lies the problem. I hate the Krieder contract bc i would have moved him and had a space open. Bc a guy like Josh Anderson would have been great there.

Chytl i dont know if he is a center or not yet. If he cant get better at FO then he needs to switch to winger.

But starting from what youre saying. You take all this 4th line garbage who has no future on this team and stop putting them in Di giseppee, rooney, and so on. You play barron and let guys like bennett play on the 4th line and actually have an effective 4th line like the golden knights, the islanders, and so on. There is plenty of room for players like that and our young guys.

Players that shrink against tight checking teams should go. Strome, Buch, zibs, the hot mess of a 4th line we have. Use those guys to get the players that we need that bring in the right leadership and play.

What the hell is Dolan going to do when the Rangers don't make the playoffs next year?

I would very seriously try to move the Kreider contract this summer. Buch can stay if that happens. I’m fine with moving Chytil to address a need. If Kreider can’t be moved, I’d see what a package of Chytil + Buch + Jones can get you.

Jones has been nice but our blue line would be pretty small with Fox, Lundkvist and Jones. I’d wager on Lundkvist being the superior all around player and puck mover so I’d make Jones available after his show case. Unless they move Lundkvist and feel Schneider is ready-ish.

Gauthier just isn’t going to be given a chance here. Howden’s time is up. The Blackwell experiment should be over. Thank you for your service, honestly, great year but I’m not pencilling him into a full time slot. Rooney can stay or be 13th forward.

One of Kreider/Buch (and I’d keep Buch 100/100 times) has to go and someone with a hard nosed energetic game has to come in. Doesn’t have to be hit machine, but hard nosed, hard driving. Strome has earned his spot but if we can upgrade from a 60-70 point Strome to a 55+ point defensive responsible, more versatile center, I’d like to.

he doesn’t skate well anymore
Yeah, Lucic wouldnt be my option. I agree, too slow.

Reaves can keep up with the play more. Matt Martin even. But not Lucic.

But we need to explore all options. We need a mix. We need a Reaves and we need a heavy nasty SOB who can play the 4th line, PK, and chip in 15-25 points. Not f***ing Brett Howden. Not Phil DiGiuseppe. Not even Kevin Rooney. Enough of these guys. Its time to get heavier.

And depending on trades and what spots open up in the top 9, I would try to bring in a guy like Foligno to add some veteran leadership and snarl. Say a trade of Buchnevich for a center happens. I would like to see a 3rd line that has Kreider and Foligno on the wings.

Is it bad that I would take Toews with money retained and reasonable price in assets?
What is a reasonable price in assets mean??? I don't think the Hawks are gonna trade him for a Hajek, Blackwell and third rounder.
Plus do we even know what is going on with him health wise? Its been pure silence.

Nah he still a good defensive center. But you’d have to overpay for the name alone
I think this is true. I'm not putting him on the same level as a Aaron Rodgers but it seems like these franchise type guys are not gonna be let go for peanuts. It would be a PR nightmare.

I don't think the Rangers will go full Defcon 1 and trade everyone for Eichel. Drury is still here. I got a lot of texts about that today.

There will be some changes and vets with playoff experience brought in. I think Buch, Strome, and possibly Mika and Chytil will be moved.

Some of the LHD prospects like Robertson and Reunnenan will not be back.

the question is why was he out this year and will it effect him going forward....but last year he had 60p in 70 games and the year before 81p in 82g so he was still pretty good offensively too

Trading everything for Eichel and his surgically repaired neck would be the most Dolan shit ever.

Secure that 1st round losing playoff team for 10 years.

I think Jones, Chytil and Strome/Buch will be dealt for Eichel. Not 100% on board but as good as Jones can be we need someone like Robertson in the lineup and Chytil at 3C I don't think there is anyone on this team he has gelled with.
Wish we could trade Kreider but can't see him waiving and we do need some vets on this team. Maybe we really do need a vet LHD next season and let both Schneider and Robertson get a year in the A.
Sign a vet for 3C who can slide down to 4C if Barron takes off.

In one day all excitement I had for the future of this team with our young players and those still on e the way...gone. I have a feeling this is going to become a mess. Dealing prospects for vets. Pushing for one shot, then muddle along for years.

I feel like Sakic gets a lot of props around here for his building of the Avs. We just have to stress patience as seen in Colorado. They let their prospects develop, figure it out, and grow. No artificial timelines. They went through a lot of growing pains and it seemed like they weren't built for post season success.

The bulk of that roster is draftees and players that developed in the organization, if acquired from trades. No panic moves. They augmented the roster with minor moves, and then they traded a glut defender for Kadri who brought a new dimension to that roster. Their team is poised. They took their lumps and took steps forward. Sakic intervened when it was clear an answer wasn't from within.

I want that. I don't want to be the flyers. Hire a rebuild/patience guy and then go off the rails because of division in the organization. Hextall tried to being Hart along slowly. He wanted to trim away more of the aging core and acquire assets a bit longer.

Philly couldn't stick to the plan and it is a disaster now. Hart has no confidence. AV may get fired. They have to get rid of JVR again. Their core players can't carry the load for the youth. I think they bailed a little too soon on what was shaping into a strong prospect pool. You have to have faith in your plan, otherwise you have no plan.

Good post. This is my thinking as well. I respected JD & Gorton for attempting to build the proper, thorough way. All that is out the window now. Drury knows for a fact that Dolan can come swooping in and fire him if he doesn't speed up/give up on the rebuild, more likely than not creating the Philly scenario described above rather than the Colorado scenario.
