I haven’t been keeping up but I just wanted to make sure-the buyout window closes at 5 pm tomorrow right? Is it 100% that we’ll see at least something go down by that time?

Pretty sure it's essentially 100% to see a buyout or trade. They can't watch the buyout window pass and not have a trade lined up to free up the space. They'd be in a very bad spot if they did that.

If the buyout window closes and nothing has happened then the barn is on fire

If the organization gave Larry the Shattenkirk buyout information to ensure a last minute improved offer for Kreider/Namestikov/Strome, then the buyout candidate is likely actually Shattenkirk.

Ya’ll a bunch of dope fiends, waiting for your transaction fix. I’m amazed at the dedication and knowledge of these nuanced cap issues.

I’m also ready for the season to start.

At least very surprising, but if Gorton has a market for a number of players — sure, it can happen. But for him to have that market, without having made any of the moves yet, he would be pretty darn cool...

Yeah, I definitely understand where the posters are coming from that are against a Shatty buy-out and respect that opinion. But from my POV a Shatty but-our makes the most sense. JMHO.

Some of the blocks will (finally) fall - when vacations end.

Curious to know how many versions there are of "Jeff, we are leaving Tuesday for 2 weeks. Let's talk when Karen and the kids return from our Vermont house."

I don't know boys, but I still see 20 returning - and I love it.

I'm too lazy to do the entire (specially the precise) math, but the league atm has approx. 180 million in cap space all together*. Lots of big name RFA still unsigned (Werenski, Marner, Rantanen, McAvoy). Teams looking for cap relief won't find many teams left with any cap space, Ottawa and Columbus are teams that cleary will have cap space.

Toronto is already over the cap and they still haven't signed Marner ffs. Who will have to command something around 10M ...

Calgary has Tkachuk to sign and 4M in cap, that's not enough. Winnipeg's cap is gone the second they announce Laine and Connor's extensions.

Ultimately I did some of the math and found that the bulk of good RFA's left, can command around 100M of those aforementioned 180M.
So the league isn't entire f***ed for the moment.

*never counted bury-able contracts; nvm didn't account LTIR either lol specially in Toronto's case.

If the website breaks I'm going to assume the Rangers bought out Shattenkirk and traded Kreider for a 2nd.

It's a buyer's market right now. Those teams that have some cap space and no significant RFA's to sign can be really choosy and look for bargains. Most teams though are either up against the ceiling or have RFA's to sign that will put them up to or even over the ceiling.....so trading a significant contract at this point in time and expecting a fair value return is not very likely.

So to go over the Shattenkirk situation--if I were a team interested in him I'd be waiting to see if the Rangers bought him out. That way I'm not even on the hook for even half of his salary--I'm making a new deal with him for say $2 mil per x 2 years and I'm not trading any assets to get him. Kevin will do alright with his buyout money. Kevin's had two straight subpar years and has now reached 30 years old. He had a significant knee injury in his first year with the Rangers requiring season ending surgery. He is at best a second pairing D with defensive issues but if he were to return to form he's a bargain at 2 x $2. The big question though is after those two subpar years and having hit 30 he hasn't already started his decline--keeping in mind as well his knee and also that the Rangers did shelter him last year and his power play numbers were bad. That's why a team interested in Kevin would want to mitigate gambling on him.

Posters here by the way thinking that we should keep him and that if we play him more he'll bring up his value--that's a possibility but the opposite is a possibility too (and also IMO where his play has been trending) that his value will go down. Playing him more also will come at DeAngelo's expense.
