Deck.....chairs.......Titanic........
Staal is a tumor on this team. Shattenkirk is a player who was injured and came into the next season out of shape because of it. I have more faith in Shattenkirk recovering his play than I do hoping the cyclopean cancer goes into remission

Why is this true?

Go back and research his stats from the beginning of his first season. The guy was on fire. Then he hurt his knee which lingered for a while, he had the procedure, couldn't train well last off-season and cam to camp behind the eight-ball. He got better as the season progressed which is to be expected when coming back from a major injury.

I am so confused as to why there is a narrative on here that says 'Shattenkirk has been a disaster from Day 1'.

And I am not singling you out McSauer, I see it everywhere.

He had 18 points in his first 25 games with the Rangers

Because the Rangers have sucked. Therefore, the signing was bad. Therefore Shattenkirk sucks.

Duh.

sooooooooo nothing lol.......... glad Namestnikov is not waived but this means its not Smith right? do they not need to clear waivers then bought out by 5 PM Wednesday?
its either Shatty or Staal or a trade? heck if I know!

I'm pretty sure they can be waived tomorrow and bought out the following day. I think the deadline pertains to waivers, not the actual buyout.

Shattenkirk was abominable for the year. He cannot play a lick of defense. Comparing Staal to being a cancer is utterly assinine. He is valued in the locker room. His mentorship to the young players is valued by Quinn.

Again, let's deal with this from the basis of reality, not flights off fancy.

The reality is that Staal had the 2nd worst shot attempt differential in the league last year. I don’t want him anywhere near young players.

That's a straight cap saving trade for Ottawa. Callahan is LTIR, Condon makes $2.4m

LTIR only applies for money over the cap, so unless Ottawa spends to 81.5 mil they don’t save anything on cally’s Cap hit but might save real $$ depending on insurance

Yes Smith would need to be on waiver 24 hours before he is bought out. Staal and Shattenkirk can deny being placed on waivers as they have NMC's
But to avoid a buyout block, they have to inform shattenkirk today as well. They need to ask him if he wants to go on waivers, I’m sure legally/contractually they have to do that and allow him to decide to whether he wants waivers or to just be bought, if the rangers just announced a buyout tomorrow without giving him the waiver option, it would probably violate the process.

So those in the know will know today and it will then probably leak if there is a shattenkirk buyout.

Who is expiring after this year? Names, Kreider & Strome?

Kreider ($4.6m), Namestnikov ($4.0m), Strome ($3.1m), Beleskey ($1.9m), Fast ($1.85m), McKegg ($0.75m), Nieves ($0.7m), Georgiev ($0.8m).

This is not factoring in the potential QO's to Lemieux and DeAngelo. Personally I hope whatever we do, ends up with a longer than one year deal for these guys.

It also doesn't factor in a cap increase, which, even if slow, should probably be in the neighborhood of $3m.

But our top 6 next year should be Panarin, Kakko, Kravtsov, Buch, Zbad, Lias/Chytil.... the bottom 6 should also have Lias/Chytil, Howden, Lemieux all in place. So we are really looking at needing to sign 3-5 forwards, but most of them can be minimal, under $1m deals. The rest can be like Fast for around or at $2m. So maybe we need, what, $7m on forwards? Plus re-signing DeAngelo and Lemieux. Plus Georgiev.

Should be plenty of space.

Tight, but I don't think we will lack options.

Then of course the following year we can do whatever we want.

Maybe they are working on a trade and will not have to buyout anyone.

Yes this happens every year on June 30 with players getting bought out. It's confusing the way it is written but players can be bought out tomorrow if they were not waived today.

Strange that no reporter has commented on noon waivers and the buyout possibility passing for several players?

You’d think with so many “cap crunch” articles that there’d be some tweets or something.
