Do not understand. Doesn't Shatty have to be waived prior to buyout?
He has a full NMC meaning he does not have to pass through waivers before being bought out. Thereby he & Staal (and Hank too actually) can be bought out last minute before the 2nd buyout window closes without any regards to lingering waivers conditions (which I believe Names and Smith fall under).

We typically do front load contracts. Names was signed for 2 years though. I don't think we could have done much with so little term.

Shatty's contract, for example, was 8m, 8m, 6.6M, and 2M. Trouba's is 12M, 10M, 8M, 6M, 8M, 6M, and 6M. Same with Smith.

If I remember correctly, a contract can't drop than more half of the previous year. Under that scenario, the best structure possible in front-loading would of been 5.33M Y1; 2.66M Y2

Are they waiting until Weds to make their buyout decision(s)?

Does this tell us they are investigating every trade avenue and are purposely waiting closer to the deadline to see if any teams up their offer before they decide to pull the trigger on a buyout?

I mean, there is no rush to announce the buyout(s)

I’d be interested to know what the asking price was for Kreider at the draft.

We know Colorado wasn’t interested in whatever the Rangers were asking for.

I understand you don’t want to give him away but if you can get a deal that’s similar to what he’d Bring back at the deadline, i would have pulled the trigger

Ok, got it. So no waiver (smitty and names) within 26 minutes then we know Staal or Shatty possibly bought out.

If so, Names and Smith are both off as buyout options. Then only Staal, Shatty and Hank remain as options

For better or worse, if he bought out Hank, the happiest guy in NYC would be Brodie Von Come Get us as the torches passed right by queens toward Penn Plaza.

I thought they were, but Newhook dropping to 16 made it an easy decision for Colorado to hold on to the pick.

shatty has no role on this team. hes 30 and plays little defense. 5v5 hes probably the worst righty defender on roster.

trouba will play a ton. ADA and fox make for a good 2 and 3.

KS PP time will be non existent. ADA deserves a shot at the top of the PP1 certainly trouba will get time there and adam fox is a prototypical PP pmd and all are rightys.

logic says shatty has no minutes.

A few things on the buy-outs:

1. It is the Notice of termination (i.e. the team letting the player know that he will be bought out) that must be filed within the 48 hour period.

A team must put a player through unconditional waivers before or promptly after giving the player his notice of termination. I.e. we must not put Smith through waivers 24 hours before the 48 hour period ends.

The waiving takes place after the buy-out has been filed and if a player is picked of the waiver the buy-out is just ineffective (see page 317 of the 2013 CBA).

I’ve just looked at this very quickly, but it’s my understanding of it. Maybe I missed something.

2. Once these things are final, i.e. the notice is made, I also think the news will break immediately. The players are in a hurry to find a new home and so forth.

If Shattenkirk is the guy the gets bought out, I wouldn't be surprised to see them sign a cheap RD. I know some of you are going to throw up in your mouths at the thought of some of these, but here are the UFAs still out there who played any games in the NHL last year

McQuaid

To me, penciling in Fox for immediate use at the NHL is somewhat foolish. Yes, we could sign someone to a PTO and find out, but they could just play Shattenkirk there and let Fox get AHL time. Hopefully Shattenkirk restores some value and could be moved at 50% come the TDL.

If not, then after his 7/1 bonus is paid. Could retain 50% then too. Not the end of the world if he stays and someone like Smith and/or Names is bought out.

Exactly this, been saying it for a while myself. There is not going to be an opportunity for Shattenkirk to bounce back unless there is an injury.

Trouba just got $8M. He is getting PP time. ADA definitely earned PP time.

I'd rather not be forced out of necessity to play a rookie in the 3RD spot either, but Shattenkirk is the guy you buy out if your plan is to ensure you're under the cap in the event you don't find a good deal for Namestnikov or Kreider before the season opens.

Like I said a few posts back, I'm sure they'll sign a 6/7 to cover their bases.

Slightly off-topic question... but with Callahan being traded to Ottawa does this increase his taxes pretty heavily?

Whats the next move if its Smith? @BBKers

Likely a trade. Who? I heard Buchnevich being mentioned before, he could bring back some real value right now, is reasonably signed and is cap controlled for 4 more years. Somebody is playing chicken here with GMJG. Could be another buyout if we get too skinned.

It probably doesn't, because he's not going to be playing any games. Being on LTIR, I believe his taxes will be based on his place of residence. I could be totally wrong about that, but I feel like I saw that somewhere about someone else.

Still think if no trades are done, buying out Names and Smith are the way to go. Less cap hit next season and you're maybe sacrificing a 3rd rounder for it. Also, you can see if Shattenkirk does bounce back. His BO next offseason is far less of an issue.
