BTW, this latest Panarin thing sounds like a leak from Theofanous to get someone to up their offer.
that is 12,500,000% right

People continue to misinterpret this whole process. Not one source has revealed that the Rangers are going to fight tooth and nail for Panarin. They were going to make their presentation and Gorton was going to offer what he felt comfortable doing. I don't think he cares that the Isles are in the running for Panarin. He has his price. If Panarin wants more, JG moves on to other moves. It's the way he's approached every move so far. People are going to analyze every little move, and Gorton is going to go about implementing his plan. Now, there's time for things to change, and if Gorton does turn around up his offer, then I will tip my hat to those he believed that would be the case for getting this one right. But, frankly, if that happens, I will be somewhat surprised, since it goes against what he's done all along.
What if Lou knows that Marner is so in need of respect he insists on being the highest paid winger in the league. This offer is to simply make the price on Marner go even higher. Boom. Lou salted the earth from L.I. and the mic drop will be felt for generations.I'm sure losing Tavares despite their best efforts left a bad taste in the Islanders mouths. Lou did a radio interview with Francesa in the spring and Mike asked him if they were better without Tavares since they were having a good year and Lou flat out said, "No." I can see how they're pushing hard to add an elite 27-year-old like Panarin. The Isles had the 3rd worst power play percentage last year.
That being said I wouldn't only read these tweets saying the Islanders are the leader as just that. He could still be heavily considering other teams. In my opinion at the end it comes down to him picking between Florida and the Islanders.
And that’s fine tooFWIW, I hope to **** Brooks is right. I don't want to get in a bidding war over this player.
When JG wants someone, he goes for broke so to speak to get them. Fox, Hajek are great examples of players that were targeted as must-haves for the Rangers. Shattenkirk came in at the Rangers terms so he signed. Panarin was never doing that, so he chased the money. Good for him. Great for us.People continue to misinterpret this whole process. Bolded is why I think the number was leaked, which goes back to your/our theory. And I am not going to comment mush more on this but leaking the number shows the fans that they made a fair bid in the event of getting out bid. I don’t think there is NDA either but reporting that the Rangers “won’t go higher” is very definitive

The agent is immediately reporting the best offer to the other suitors. This isn't a silent auction. And we are all assuming NYR wanted Panarin as much as the fans. For all we know based on what has been reported, this is just like Shattenkirk where Gorton was cool with a deal on his terms, but content to pass.Well, see that is just it. They wanted Panarin. The Islanders and Florida need Panarin and I think JG and Gorton were perfectly comfortable not getting him. Lets be honest, even if the the offers wasn't leaked by Brooks, you can't believe that Theofanus didn't go to the Isles and Florida and say "Rangers are at 11.25m, up your offer". I don't think they are bound to NDA's when negotiating a contract.

They literally offered him a contract to stay which would've surrendered the first..

For sure, just saying he has no problem ponying up assets for things he wants. But, he doesn't overpay. Trouba, Fox...they were fair prices.
LOL @ Minnesota.

If you guys are right about his agent leaking the number, then we're already out of the running. There's no reason for his agent to leak anything.that is 12,500,000% right
Ah, yes. The "it's a conspiracy" argument. The Stars definitely traded for a guy and wasted time negotiating a new contract with him just for show.
Not at all. He’s been linked to the rangers for years, where have you been? If he’s picking the islanders out of nowhere it’s because of the money. Pretty simple logic if you can follow. And no it’s not arrogant, every player has different priorities. His is money, simple statement. You want him to give up money in order to be a Ranger over an Islander? That's pretty arrogant.

Right. It is entirely possible he really wants to come to the Rangers and this is just a negotiating tactic to see if he can get some more money before signing. It is one of many possibilities and I suppose we will see which is true tomorrow.Well saying "Isles are the favorite" is one way to say "Hey NYR and FLA, get your final offers in now."
Lou doesn't leak anything so this isn't coming from the Islander camp.
