I mean if I want Panarin, and know the Rangers are maxed out at 11.25m, I certainly know how to outbid them. I think that number coming from Brooks instead of like McKenzie tells a story too. The showed their cards too early. It’s a mistake. How is it not a mistake? Especially is Panarin was Plan A?

I'm pretty sure it didn't come from NYR.

It’s just kind of bizarre that AP has never been linked to the islanders before this past couple weeks. Shows me all he cares about is the $$$.

You want him to give up money in order to be a Ranger over an Islander? That's pretty arrogant.

I think it shows that the Rangers aren't going to be held hostage by FA's and agents any more. I think it shows that if you want to be here, we have a limit. I think it shows that if an agent thinks he's going to try to use other teams as leverage to get the Rangers to up their offer, they are mistaken.

If anything, I think it sets the bar for this organization. A bar that badly needed to be set for a long, long time.

I'm sure losing Tavares despite their best efforts left a bad taste in the Islanders mouths. Lou did a radio interview with Francesa in the spring and Mike asked him if they were better without Tavares since they were having a good year and Lou flat out said, "No." I can see how they're pushing hard to add an elite 27-year-old like Panarin. The Isles had the 3rd worst power play percentage last year.

That being said I wouldn't only read these tweets saying the Islanders are the leader as just that. He could still be heavily considering other teams. In my opinion at the end it comes down to him picking between Florida and the Islanders.

I don’t disagree with any of this, but again, don’t let your offer leak out if you want to sign a guy. Rangers wanted Panarin. If Panarin or his agent wanted a bidding war it’s on them, which they have the right to do so. My point is the Isles (and others) knew what number they had to best

It's not about lou, it's not about taxes, it's not about winning. It's getting the most money out of the places his girlfriend approved.

Forget all the soundbites after a game 7 loss. These guys get flattered with trucks of money and they forget about winning months after the adrenaline wore off. No judgement. I'm cool with them doing what helps decades after they retire. But the lesson here is forget all about that rah-rah team talk while drunk on camaraderie and beard sweat. By the time free agency comes around their agents got into the ear and money is driver.

Yeah but you're assuming that the Rangers were being Honest about that number.

The news that the Isles are the "front runners" is not coming from the Isles, this is coming from his agent.

BTW, this latest Panarin thing sounds like a leak from Theofanous to get someone to up their offer.
Probably, but even so, Brooks hurt the team by reporting that. He shouldn’t have taken the bait.

“Rangers will go high for Panarin but have a limit” is much different reporting from the headline that he provided

Well, see that is just it. They wanted Panarin. The Islanders and Florida need Panarin and I think JG and Gorton were perfectly comfortable not getting him. Lets be honest, even if the the offers wasn't leaked by Brooks, you can't believe that Theofanus didn't go to the Isles and Florida and say "Rangers are at 11.25m, up your offer". I don't think they are bound to NDA's when negotiating a contract.

Panarin to NYI makes sense. They are contending now and have the space. Makes more sense than us signing him when we might not even be on the rise yet.

Show me where someone with the Rangers said "This is our offer to Panarin". It does not exist. Brooks does not ALWAYS speak for this team, I am sick of that narrative. Also, if you think the agent doesn't tell the Islanders what the Rangers offered then I think you are being short sided.

People continue to misinterpret this whole process. Not one source has revealed that the Rangers are going to fight tooth and nail for Panarin. They were going to make their presentation and Gorton was going to offer what he felt comfortable doing. I don't think he cares that the Isles are in the running for Panarin. He has his price. If Panarin wants more, JG moves on to other moves. It's the way he's approached every move so far. People are going to analyze every little move, and Gorton is going to go about implementing his plan. Now, there's time for things to change, and if Gorton does turn around and up his offer, then I will tip my hat to those he believed that would be the case for getting this one right. But, frankly, if that happens, I will be somewhat surprised, since it goes against what he's done all along.

Bolded is why I think the number was leaked, which goes back to your/our theory. And I am not going to comment mush more on this but leaking the number shows the fans that they made a fair bid in the event of getting out bid. I don’t think there is NDA either but reporting that the Rangers “won’t go higher” is very definitive
