That second one is important tbh. Here is why people like Strome:
A. He shot 20%.
B. He's not Spooner.

That would be a violation of the forum rules.I feel like creating 10 logins just to like this 10x.
Maybe JD pushed for Panarin, and it was a calculated hit. But we are paying for it now, and will continue for our next few moves.I agree. I doubt anyone holds Gorton over a barrel.
the Rangers haven't traded someone like Buch in a long time unless my memory is failing me. this is kinda uncharted territory.

Oh, absolutely. If my two options are Spooner as a healthy scratch or Strome as the 2C I would rather have Spooner on the roster.
Dubinsky and Anisimov in 2012 is really the last time we moved mid 20s 2nd liners in a trade.
Why is it so rediculous?
Stepan or JT Miller?
Anyone who follows this thread knows that Buchnevich has been available since May (from several sources) and was almost traded at the draft.
The Rangers are likely looking at Kaapo, Kravtsov and Panarin as being three of their top four wingers moving forward. If Kreider is traded, Pavel has a clear shot at being the fourth. If Kreider stays, it’s his job. Simple math

It’s not about that, but ok.Panarin > Both of Kreider and Buch
If we trade Buch, who will be around to do Russian things with Panarin?
Oh, absolutely.
Atrocious player who everyone knows is atrocious > bad player who eats minutes.
Every time.
If Buchnevich is dealt - look for (decent) pieces coming back not adding to this years cap. If that materializes - Kreider likely stays until the TDL, Smith is bought out, Trouba signs at 7,5 and Lemmy/ADA sign show me one year deals.
At this stage, I think Buch/Kreider continues to be either/or. Though I am still not getting the vibe that Kreider is really seen as a long term piece they've actively taking into account while planning.
Somehow, I doubt the consensus on Strome would be different if we were contending.I think it really depends on the context. The bad player who eats minutes serves a purpose on our roster... namely to give the young players a cushion so their development isn't hurt by being forced into positions they're not ready to handle. The atrocious player who is going to be a healthy scratch just takes up cap that we need elsewhere.
Obviously, if wins are the immediate goal, this is a different story.
Buch is more expendable than Kreider is with the amount of finesse players we already have. Plus, we can should be able to get a nice return for Buchnevich. Sucks because he can score and we may very well be letting him go.
