Vrana signed for 2 x 3.35. Should be a good barometer for what Buch will get.
Vrana had 24 goals and 47 points in 82 games. 80 points in 176 career games.
Buchnevich had 21 goals and 38 points in 64 games. 101 points in 179 career games.

Yeah, and Buch is arbitration eligible, while Vrana was not. Not perfect comparables, but they are coming off similar seasons (.57 vs .59).
Rick Carpiniello had a chat session this afternoon at The Athletic.
He believes the Rangers and Trouba are negotiating over a few hundred grand per year and bonus structure. They will get a contract done.
The Rangers don't want to pay Kreider. They are scared of giving Chris 7 years. He thinks Kreider will be traded than extended.
He doesn't think both Kreider and Buchnevich will be on the roster this season. The Rangers sign Buchnevich to a bridge deal.
A defenseman will be bought out. Shattenkirk or Smith.
Namestnikov will be moved.

Trouba will sign, the RFA's will all sign with Buchnevich being the one who may be on the move.
Kreider is likely gone, Namesnikov likely gone, Smith likely bought out. Staal continues to get a free pass.

Would love if all of this happened. I truly believe moving Buch is a mistake. He's coming into his own slowly and has pretty good numbers. Should be on a great value bridge deal as well.
Buying out smith who’s actually versatile and keeping shatty who can’t pk or play left side and would be blocking one of Fox or DeAngelo makes zero sense
Shatty probably gets used as an extra in this case.
What makes less sense is keeping your worst defenseman around for shits and giggles.
That doesn’t help the team at all
Smith can play wing add grit kill penalties as a defenseman and Play both sides and can be waived if need be. Shatty cant do any of that for us.

Staal should be the one who gets bought out. Shattenkirk's buyout numbers are butt.

The Big 3 contracts for Shattenkirk, Smith, and Staal are so brutal. Would be a shame if they cost them Buch.
Whats sad too is that it's not like these contracts have a lot of term. Just 2 years and those 3, plus Hank are off the books.

For one year yes but it’s hardly the end of the world. We don’t have to pay anyone next year. We have Girardi money coming off we have namestnikov and Strome coming off maybe Fast hell maybe even lundqvist if he calls it a career (don’t be surprised). Plus the cap bump. It’s the greatest savings this year when we actually need it.
That would still limit what you can do next offseason though. Holding 6+ million of dead space for one guy not to play is a lot.
Regardless, the amount of hate the guy gets is unreal. He is 3000000000x the player that Staal is and I don't even think KS is THAT good.
AA was moved for a small cap savings . Is that enough for the Hawks to sign Perlini ?

if we move kreider and names...unless you are retaining 50% on names, then that probably clears enough space and you can avoid buying anyone out. and given that the return probably isn't that high in the first place i'd rather take a lesser return on names to not retain. that cap space has more value to us then the difference between a 3rd round pick and a 5th round pick.

If we trade Buch to clear cap it’ll be a very big mistake. Move Vlad, move Krieder and possibly Strome if you need to. Buch should be a last case scenario, he is young, cost controlled for another bunch of years and still has a lot of potential to be at the very least an elite 3rd liner and at the very best an elite 2nd liner. Neither Vlad nor Strome offer this type of potential.
We really just need to make it 2 years down the line when Staal, Smith, Shatty and Hank come off the books. That will afford us a ton of cap flexibility and at that point it’ll be time to start thinking about Kakko and Kravtsov’s next deals.

Why move Buch if they don’t want to commit to Kreider
Shoulda moved Kreider at the draft for the highest bidder. I like him but you can’t give him big dollars after signing Panarin. I can’t imagine the package the team may get at the deadline would be better than at the draft
