That's fair, but he would still have "a role" because being bad seems to be a role.Strome wouldn’t be potentially on our 2nd line if we were contending.

Eh, he'd have to be on my 4th line for me to play him. He’s fine as a 3C or 3W.
I'm not sure I believe Gorton sees either Buch or Kreider as long-term pieces.

He does very few things well.
I think they'd be perfectly happy to keep Kreider until the deadline, even if he isn't in their long plans. This has no basis, but I also think they'd be willing to sacrifice other pieces that could have been long-term (Buchnevich) to do it. Kreider might not be the most consistent player in the world, but he does know how to impose his physical will on the ice. That's a good thing to have around for kids to see. Particularly Kakko.
Because you are setting yourself up for failure.
He wasn't brought here to score 30+ goals.
He was brought here to do exactly what he has done.
If you are expecting more and he doesn't deliver, you failed at setting your expectations properly.
He signed one of the largest contracts in NHL history. He is supposed to be in his Prime. He scored more than 25 goals every season in the NHL. Why are we settling for less? Bar needs to be set higher, as the contract reflects. He's hit 30 2x in the past 4 seasons. Go get it again.
Pouliot would break Strome's ankles blindfolded and take his dog. This discussion reminds me so much of Pouliot (not saying you were saying this kind of thing about Pouliot, but just that people did).
Do you feel that Panarin changes anything in this regard? How do you see the Rangers clearing room for Trouba and the RFA's?I get the sense that once the draft came and went, the sense of urgency to move a guy like Kreider diminished a little. I think they'd still prefer to move him, but not just for the sake of moving him either.

Kinda how Luc Robitaille ended up.
Maybe, but I would tend to doubt it. I am sure that the Panarin discussions were had when JD was interviewing and what came on board. I think that where Panarin signed, fell into the range that Gorton had in his head as a move he would make.Maybe JD pushed for Panarin, and it was a calculated hit. But we are paying for it now, and will continue for our next few moves.
Not sure Luc is a good analogy to Names. He was much more than a supplementary player. 12th all time in a goals and he's in the HOF. One of the best goal scorers in our sports history .
Kreider has been brushing up on his Russian I hear, might even become a full fledged Russian citizen soonIf we trade Buch, who will be around to do Russian things with Panarin?
He was awful here. All he did was coast. No effort. Ironically, he became a 30+ goal scorer when he went to LA.Another incredible player who was mediocre as a NY Ranger.
But where does it want to go to medical schoolBTW Strome's dog is a Shih Tzu and his name is Oscar. I read about it once.
Basement Artie to Ottawa.
