Vlad trade has to be coming. That should be enough cap to get Buch and Lemieux new deals.

We have DeAngelo too. Trading Vlad gets us to about $5m in space. They've gotta make another move.

Also, they'll likely be sending down McKegg and the big chunk of Beleskey's deal goes down too, during the preseason. Kreider is still likely a goner too, but I think they could get all those guys in, if they get Lemieux to take his QO salary.

When I said $5m, I included making those moves. Cap Friendly has us $900k over the cap. Once you move Beleskey, one depth forward, and one D to Hartford, it puts us around $1-2m under.

900K over the cap, even if they don't take back any salary for Vlad that wouldn't be enough to sign Buch. Could sign ADA and Lemieux maybe.

$900k over though includes Belesky who will be buried and at least 1 of nieves or mckegg that won't make the team cause there isn't room on the roster for that many forwards...so that puts us roughly $1 mil under. likely need to clear another 6-7 mil

Could be wrong here but burying Smith and Beleskey brings us to ~1.8m in cap space. Moving Vlad brings us to 5.8m.

Would be a very tight squeeze but

Buch - 3m AAV for 2-3 years
ADA - 1.75m AAV on 1-2 years
Lemieux - 1m AAV on 1 year

It can work... marginally

You have to send down Smith, Beleskey and McKegg. Which is doable.

The problem is that this kind of situation doesn't really allow you to... for example... re-assign Nieves and put Kravtsov on the roster. We might not even have the cap space to maneuver a $100k-200k, which would be a very bad thing.

I think simply for the sake of in-season flexibility, they're going to have to make a second move beyond just trading Namestnikov.

I don't think they will go that tight though...if they can't move out 2 guys via trade to clear enough space they will use a buyout. I think they want to avoid a buyout but they will use it over having to worry about $100k

They absolutely will have to. Even assuming a total of 5.5M between the 3 remaining RFA's, just trading Namestnikov still has us 1.6M over the cap. There's either going to have to be another trade or a buyout.

Yeah, exactly. At this stage of the Rangers build, you can't put yourself in a position where you're making roster decisions during the season entirely on cap implications. That's what they'd be forced to do unless they make two moves here.

It seems to me that two of Kreider, Namestikov, Stome, and Buchnevich are the most likely to be moved. That would probably be enough as long as either Kreider or Namestikov is one of them. Or you could trade one and do a buyout on one of the three amigos.
There doesn't seem to be any talk of a Kreider extension so:
Kreider for a first and a prospect.
Namestikov for a 5th rd pick.
No buyout so no dead money.
Or maybe you cant get even that for Namestikov right now so you buy out Smith instead. You can probably trade Namestikov at the deadline for a better pick than you could get now.
I really dont want to trade Buchnevich. That's my only fear with this cap situation.

Kreider trade + Smith buyout is the most likely outcome.

if they decide somehow to punt Staal instead this really would be in contention for the best offseason they've had, ever.
