Yes we’re in great shape.

If you believe Brooks' numbers, we can be cap compliant with one move. Trade Kreider. Or trade Namestikov. Or Smith. I think Brooks is a little optimistic but it's still just two moves at the most.

I mean they could still sign Buch and Lemiuex and be comfortably under the off-season ceiling no? So they'd have plenty of time to move out another contract or two.

trade names not kreider. Teams know we are desperate for cap space after signing two massive contracts so they will try to get kreider for pennies on the dollar. We could probably get someone to take namestikov for a late round pick

Offseason cap isn’t an issue, it’s the regular season. Time crunch now is making deals before buchnevich signs so we know if we need buyouts

JD is in St. Louis visiting his daughter and two grandchildren. He went home to Columbus after July 1. JD did an interview with ESPN Radio NY right after the Rangers signed Panarin and he said he was back in Columbus.

I read JD is selling his home in Columbus. 5 fireplaces.

Gorton is running the team in NY.

Strickland didn't ask him many Rangers questions. JD said it's my job to be patient with the Rangers. He discussed Trouba. It's an expensive contract. He is a player who is hard to find. Talked about Panarin still being a young guy at 30-31 when the Rangers young guys become stars.

Strickland mentioned Shattenkirk after the JD interview was finished. Andy said besides Trouba the Rangers have another righty shooting D. Shattenkirk. Kevin is looking to have a bounce back year. Nothing about a potential buyout. Strickland is very close with Shattenkirk. He has tweeted some stuff about Shattenkirk's contracts/future in the past.

Those power forward contracts don't work.

Lucic
Neal
Ladd
Okposo
Backes

Kreider has been a very good Ranger but those power forwards don't age well at all.

I think Elliotte Friedman had mentioned a Lucic for Neal deal a few months ago.

McKenzie had said on one of his podcasts that an NHL GM told him there 30 bad contracts teams want to lose but nobody wants them.

Lucic for Neal. The bad contracts were traded for each other.

It’s not only powerforwards, it’s to some extent also snipers. The sniper is contingent on someone getting them the puck, must be an entire unit that can create pressure so that they can hang out at the top of the crease. Having a playmaker isn’t enough, teams pressure so much without the puck that the playmakers don’t get time to set up office.

There is always talk about how we must get snipers, but I don’t know if it’s worth it...

So realistically people's projections have been accurate- in that NYR must

1) Trade one of Namestnikov/Kreider without retention

2) Buy out one of Smith/Staal

Or both parts of 1 or 2, to fit everyone under realistically.

...who the heck needs 5 fireplaces?

Pretty sure if we trade can trade Names for pick/prospect, and then bury Belesky and Smith, we have enough to fit everyone else without any moves.

Kreider can always be moved at the TDL

I still hold hopes that they will realize that it’s best to deal with this once and for all and buy out all three of Shatty, Smith and Staal, and not bridge all RFAs.

Do we really need two more RFAs in two years? We already have at least Lias, Howden, Chytil and Hajak becoming RFAs in two years. Three more in Buch, TDA and Lemieux.

It’s like we — never — learn. We only invest in big name vets from other teams. Why rebuild if we never will invest in the homegrown kids?

I wonder if Edmonton is going to trade Neal too. The big problem with Lucic was his NMC. Neal doesn't have a clause in his contract of any kind.

You’d think CGY tried to trade Neal without taking a boat anchor like Lucic back, previously ...Good luck with that EDM. Trading Neal would involve lots of retention and/or addition of assets.

Maybe he can rebuild some value by having a rebound year taking feeds from #97.

Also I think the thing holding this deal up is the transfer of the NMC. CGY is probably hesitant to sign the addendum which transfers his NMC, because they’d have to protect him in the ED.

Lucic might budge and say f*** it and waive with out a NMC to get the hell out of EDM.

Maybe Calgary wanted to unload Lucic with more assets, but the teams willing to make that deal were ones that Lucic wouldn’t waive for. They wouldn’t have that issue with Neal.

I love the @Ola plan to buy out all 3.

It's crazy and seems like such a bad idea but at the same time you've gotten rid of the black cloud hanging over the defense.

Don't think there is any way they do this but it'd be nice to have a completely clean slate in that regard.

Not if they force Lemmy and ADA to sign their QOs.

That is short sighted. They get arbitration rights and from that point they get all the leverage. By 26-27 they will become UFAs unless we give them UFA money long past their prime, or we have to trade them for a subpar return. And yes, objectively a late 1st for a strong NHLer is a bad trade.

Yzerman locked up JT Miller and got tremendous value for him (Vancouver’s 1st for Christ sake). Gorton pushes the players to the verge of UFA and get crap for them. Smart strategy!
