How long is that going to last? I'd say the chance that he is here beyond the trade deadline is slim to none. Regardless, I don't see Burdasov as a Kreider replacement. He may not even make the team, never mind the top 6. As long as the contract can be buried without penalty, there's no risk.

understood

im sure the panarin/kravtsov/shesty thing dosent hurt either as they are all familiar with him and his game.

no risk is good.

YOu have to REPLACE Names once you trade him...

Otherwise you're putting Greg McKegg out there. **** that
This has nothing to do with McKegg. It has to do with two things: 1) there is a forward crunch and a few people have to go from the top 9 2) There is some shedding of salary that has to occur due to the Panarin signing.

Let's say that one of Buch or Krieder will be here to start the season and also that both of Kakko and Krvavstov will make the team out of camp. That's 3 forwards. Add ZBad, Chytil, Howden, Panarin, Lemieux, Andersson. There's your likely top 9. That list does not even Strome. Not sure there is really room for Nametsnikov. There is no real room for McGegg unless he is playing on the 4th line. And frankly I would rather take a chance on a Burdasov to play there. He seems to bring an element that this team needs and what Gorton and Quinn are trying to instill.

I’ll bet you a 20 he does not start in Hartford. His agent was promised a roster spot.

I'd buy this logic more if Fox was undrafted UFA without existing team preference and the only motivation - to make it onto NHL roster. In this case Fox wanted to be a Ranger. I'm sure that after signing a 3 year ELC with the organization he preferred he would not mind spending a portion of his first professional season with it's AHL affiliate. Then again if he shows his readiness in the camp - the Rangers will not "forcefully" keep him in Hartford.

Interest in Burdasov is puzzling given his age, foot speed, lack of any significant accomplishments in the KHL and how full the Rangers roster is even with Kreider and Namestnikov out. Mayyyybe there's a 4th line spot but leaving KHL to be a 4th liner here just seems nonsensical to me. Florida and Flyers are both probably a better fit.

It's a no lose situation for depth. Who's going to be on the Rangers 4th line this year? Fast and who else? The Rangers need bottom six depth.

Give Burdasov an out clause if he doesn't make the team. Keep him if he proves to be a nice bottom 6 option that can forecheck, cycle, and knock in the odd goal. It sounds like Quinn will love him. He's trying to make this team harder to play against.

Agreed. But it's the same with any team now. Maybe more opportunity with Ottawa or a better team in Florida or Philly. But it's a balance I guess.

Kakko - Zibanejad - Buch
Panarin - Chytil - Strome
Lias - Howden - Kravtsov
Lemiuex - Boo - Fast

Kreider and Names out. As I said what would motivate Burdasov to compete for a 4th line spot?

Well looks like Panarin is staying the rest of his life in America. Crazy bold move by him but a lot of respect to him for doing something no other Russian players would do.

Sorry for linking deadspin, but it was the first non paywall that came up.
Wow, great for him! That was an incredibly thoughtful and well-reasoned interview he gave. I know there are some shifting sentiments in Russia, but it's fantastic to see someone of Panarin's stature come out and discuss the situation so eloquently. Love this guy even more, now.

Fast Boo and Turdasov fourth line imo

These verbal "guarantees" of an NHL roster spot are non-binding and can't be put into an NHL contract, IIRC.

Not only that, but there is no benefit for the team to do that. Unless the next McDavid somehow forgoes the daft and decides to wait it out to become FA, I can't imagine a team even giving a verbal commitment to a guaranteed roster spot.
