Thirty one teams in the league would be bidding for him if he was a UFA next summer, thirty would have guaranteed him a spot in the NHL, you think he would go play in the AHL? It would have surprised me at least.

But who knows, maybe he would have. He is supposedly a NYR fan. Don’t know if it’s worth to make a big deal about though, and I definitely think the situation changed a lot after we traded for him and he could go to a place he wanted to go to a year before he could go anywhere else. Given what we gave up for him, it’s a clear sign that we weren’t planning on having him in the AHL going into next season. JMHO. And thanks for the civil response!
So even if we concede that this situation was different from his perspective than free agency (I don't think it was, he picked his team, he could have picked any team and they would have traded for him), wouldn't you say you overstated how much Shattenkirk's presence on a roster would deter him?

I don't really understand your point.

We have a cap crunch, that's a reality with or without Burdasov in the picture. Cap compliance moves will be coming one way or another. It seems unlikely to me that Burdasov would agree to sign with a club based on a promise that the team would eventually be able to work out its cap problems.

I could be wrong, though.

Won’t Burdashov be getting the Plotnikov contract (that wasn’t an ELC either, right?) Ie one that can be buried in the AHL if he don’t make the NHL.

Yeah maybe I did, especially when you put it like that. And I can’t say that ‘that’ is wrong. I assumed a situation kind of like Hayes or Vesey was in, like would Hayes have signed with us even if it meant playing in the AHL for a year or two first? That would have surprised me too. But it does seem like Fox picked us which would mean that I did overstate it.

Yeah he's too old for an ELC. His contract would be able to be buried up to like $925k or whatever the current max is, unless I'm missing something on that. He's also almost certain to have an out clause in his contract where he could get out of his deal if he was assigned to the AHL.

It's all speculation though. We'll see, whenever he signs.

Yeah, and it wouldn’t be the first time our name is mentioned in situations like this without anything materializing. It feels like it’s safe to put our name into rumors like this just to pump up some buzz and get clicks.

With that said, he kind of plays the same role as Kreider and would be a good role model, in a way, for the younger Russians so I wouldn’t rule it out either.

I still feel Gorton has a deal for Shattenkirk but is waiting for someone else to get their cap situation settled. I mean there has to be something, it's seriously getting late to be chasing cap compliance. The Trouba deal is wink wink handshake done, they are holding his cap space until they get something else done. But that's my opinion anyway. I still see Kreider leaving, mostly because of his cap hit after this year but also because I believe Panarin and Kravtsov can man the top 6 LW.

It’s not that late, they can be over the cap until the season starts

Bingo. I'm confident there are plans in place. If not already-agreed-upon then at least JG has plans "A" through "Z" in mind. It will all, or mostly, be done by the arbitration hearings. If plans "A" through "Y" fall through, they'll do buyouts right after the arbitration cases are done.
Totally appreciate we all want closure and will be reading the tea leaves until that point, but I think it's best to just wait and see.

He’s big and his shot is incredible when he has space to get it off. He can throw big hits too. He’s very slow though

NHL is notorious for having little time and space to work with, hence why the east-west style players thrive in the KHL. He sounds promising but I wouldn't get too excited

The players salary cap hit, minus the sum of the minimum NHL salary for the respective season and $375,000, still counts towards the team’s salary cap total.
The cap hit relief is therefore equal to the minimum salary of the respective season + $375,000:

2014-15: $550,000 + $375,000 = $925,000
2015-16: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2016-17: $575,000 + $375,000 = $950,000
2017-18: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2018-19: $650,000 + $375,000 = $1,025,000
2019-20: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2020-21: $700,000 + $375,000 = $1,075,000
2021-22: $750,000 + $375,000 = $1,125,000

The year of the hold out.

What assurances did the Rangers make to Fox? He wanted to sign with the Rangers. There is no guarantee Fox is making team out of training camp. If the Rangers feel the player needs to begin his pro career in the AHL, they will do what's best for the player.

McDonagh was leery of signing with the Rangers in 2010. He didn't know anything about the Rangers after his trade in 2009. He signed with the Rangers and ended up playing the first 3 months of his pro career in the AHL. He was OK in his first pro camp.

Same thing with Skjei. He started his career in the AHL.

Pionk was a highly coveted free agent college D. Where did he start his pro career?

What's the big deal with Fox starting the season in Hartford? He should have a long NHL career ahead of him and spending a few months in the AHL won't derail his career.
