So do the Leafs even need to trade Nylander now? They freed up $11MM trading Zaitsev and Marleau.

Marleau’s money was already used to resign Johnsson and kapanen. So they have 5.5 mil free which isn’t enough for marner but I don’t think they are moving nylander they will clear space somehow...

Issue they face will be not having a team beyond their top guys

That's fourteen. You've got to assume no Panarin, both Kakko and Kravtsov start in the AHL, and at least one guy moves (without bringing any NHL-level forwards back) in order for there to be room for Boyle.
My math works a bit different. I place Smith as a forward, and have Kravstov and Kakko on the team to start. Which means there are more moves to make. But having said that, Boyle would be a 4th line center. That means Nieves is not on the team, which frankly I could care less about.

Even if Toronto flips Zaitsev for Ceci and walks away from him in arbitration, they're going to be pretty tight against the cap. They'd have about $10m in space to sign Marner, but they'd need two top-4 defensemen and some other depth players.
Horton's LTIR helps a little but it's a tall order.

Additionally, depending on who they get for the blue line, they'll have done nothing to actually improve their team over the summer. They were desperately looking for a physical top-six winger at the deadline as well and they'll be entering the year with the same group.

Is it possible that the 7 x $11.25 figure was given to Brooks by Panarins agent to negotiate against florida? I'm hoping our contract is closer to 7 x $10.
There is no chance Panarin's contract is not worth at a bare minimum $11m.

One of these is not like the others:

Panarin is great. Panaring is a once in a lifetime player. Panarin will play at a high level level well into his thirties. Panarin will take a contract that will be below market rates.

Going to presume that you have read exactly zero of the Panarin debates. NO ONE does not recognize Panarin's talents for what they are. That is one point that has not been argued by ANYONE.
He’s talented but not at that money. I wouldn’t go any higher than what Stone received. It’s a capped league. If the cap was. 100m Kreider would be signed and we could hard after Panarin or someone like him. I rather keep building like we are. It will be so rewarding and exciting to watch these young players bond and grow together into a winner. LGR!

The Panthers with Panarin and Bob are much, much closer to winning than the Rangers are. Hell, even without those guys they're probably closer at this point as well.
I don’t disagree, it’s just looking at that division Florida won’t be going anywhere. Tampa, Toronto, and Boston are gonna be the top 3 for the foreseeable future and that’s not including Montreal that almost made the playoffs. Compared to the Metro where you have Washington and a whole bunch of question marks. Pittsburgh is declining, can the Islanders maintain their play? Columbus is gonna be way worse, Carolina is a wild card literally and figuratively depending on their goaltending situation and scoring. Flyers are mediocre, Rangers and Devils are on the upswing. I’m not advocating for signing him but long term the Rangers resources would run deeper than Florida imo.

Kessel and Tocchett have a great relationship. Not surprised at all by this. The return for Kessel shouldn't be very much if Arizona is taking on full salary. If they land Kreider as well they're really going for it. Arizona's issue last year was scoring goals. That's at least 45 to 50 goals they're adding in acquiring Kessel and Kreider.

The Rangers can retain 50% on Kreider and still have two retention slots available. Spooner getting bought out is huge. Rangers can retain on Kreider, Namestnikov, and Smith/Shattenkirk to maximize their returns.
