None. We don't need to sign a Center. Zibanejad/Strome/Howden are 100% going to be three of them as they were last year. Then Chytil is C or W TBD. Andersson will hopefully make the team as another center. There's Nieves there too if needed. I would just look for good AHL players like Letestu/Holland/Kero/Street who can fill on the 4th line temporarily if one of the younger guys isn't ready and play as the 1C/2C in Hartford and help out down there.

This is a VERY young team. It will go through ups and downs. If they're trying to tank again it's one thing, but they've improved without going crazy. I'd really like to get a vet older than Zib/Trouba in here to offer a different perspective.

I don't think this is the same as the Gomez, Drury or Redden deals to name a few. But at the end of the day when you make a deal like this you know you typically have a 4 or 5 year window before the wheels fall off. If you are comfortable with that then go for it. Personally I'd pass. Not ready to put an expiration date on this team yet particularly while we are just getting going.

I see it differently than both Gomez and Drury as well. But those signings aren't the reason why I don't want Panarin. I'm not afraid Panarin is going to come here and suck. I'm afraid he'll come here, produce big time when we're not ready to compete as a team, and by the time we are getting serious he'll start his inevitable decline. We'll be paying our 2nd, 3rd or 4th best forward the most money and he'll have term left that we won't be able to trade.

They have them on the defense (for now) with Staal/Shattenkirk.

Boyle would be a real solid addition for this team. I’ve said it before, overpay him on a 1 year deal. Move him at the deadline. His family gets to stay in the NY area which is great for their personal lives and doctor visits.

Boyle was one of my favorite Rangers and the guy is still an effective depth piece.

Give him 1 year at $2.75-3m

I see zero reason to sign another veteran center. We haven’t even gotten rid of namestnikov yet who’s more than capable of being a 4th C.

Mika Chytil Strome Howden Lias all centers. None rookies (other than Lias) let them friggen play.

None of the rumored guys in trades [or guys that we would trade] for us are due any signing bonuses this year (Kreider, Vesey, Names, Strome, Shattenkirk)

Skjei and Staal both 1 million dollar bonuses this year to be paid, not sure that changes anything though (unlikely)

Shattenkirk was paid 16 million each of the last 2 years, and is going to be paid 6 million this year and next year - BUT next year he gets a 2 million dollar signing bonus. Great contract structure and prime time for a trade.

I agree that the timing might not be perfect. But what if this team was ready to compete a year from now? That's only year two of a Panarin deal. He should still be in top form for several years after that. Again, I'd rather go slow and have one more shot at a top draft pick next June to complete the rebuild, but I can see the appeal in Panarin.

Wow why doesn't nobody recognize that AP is elite talent. A talent you hope your own top 3 pick will become someday. Never are those players not taken care of by their teams and go to ufa..except if you are the isles..

Look at all the last ufa classes. 2017 top ufa was shatty ha... 2nd to 3rd pairing defender . Stamos was rumored but never came to ufa.

Because teams are smart and lock up their elite talent no matter the cost (13-15% of cap) And if somebody compares 5 or 10 year old contracts to today I don't know how you budget your daily needs. I guess you will get everything for the same prices like 10 years ago

Zibanejad
Kreider
Namestnikov
Strome
Vesey
Fast
Chytil
Andersson
Howden
Nieves
Lemieux
Buchnevich
Kakko
Kravtsov

That's fourteen. You've got to assume no Panarin, both Kakko and Kravtsov start in the AHL, and at least one guy moves (without bringing any NHL-level forwards back) in order for there to be room for Boyle.

Then, there's also the fact that we have 7 guys who either play center or the team wants to play center on that roster already. I can see bringing in a 2C, but a 4C doesn't make a lot of sense to me...

Well a number of those guys have been floating around in rumors leading up to the draft and beyond, so perhaps the Rangers are sitting on some offers to see how the market shakes out after Monday's frenzy. If they can sign a couple guys maybe it makes them more comfortable moving other players and if other teams miss out on their guys then they might come asking about guys like Names, Vesey, and Kreider.

I'll be curious to see how some of the bottom-six guys fit into the long-term plans of the team. They have more players knocking at the door this year so they need to be confident in the balance between insulating kids and giving them an opportunity to break into the lineup.

Another thing that I think doesn't get talked about enough is strengthening Hartford. I could see a few youngish vets who didn't get qualified getting pricier contracts to be drivers with the Pack.

Is it possible that the 7 x $11.25 figure was given to Brooks by Panarins agent to negotiate against florida? I'm hoping our contract is closer to 7 x $10.

Also for a lot less money. If we contend in 3 years and need ufa help you maybe need to pay 2nd tier players lots of money and AP cap % will go down.

This would be a bargain

I know, I want to believe. I mean remember how the Shatty deal was both great in term and contract, and the Panarin to Ranger rumors have been known for what seems like ages. If this is to be the case, I can see Gorton offering the term but at a lower than market value, to tell him we'd love to have him and if not that's okay and that we will continue rebuilding.

Fingers crossed it happens and the last 20 pages of this thread are invalid :D

Exactly. It’s not logical, unless they’re a 2C that’d push an inferior option to the W.

You want 5, and ideally 6 Cs IMO so I think there's room for Boyle.

Size would be nice, team got bodied pretty hard last year at times.
