He can be a good 2nd liner in the right circumstances. Had almost 70 points last year
Actually he had 75 last year, but he’s only eclipsed 50 points twice in his career. He could prove to be a solid middle 6 guy, but I feel like it’s not a guy that adds much at this point in his career. If he doesn’t though, Minny didn’t give up much to give it a shot. Especially considering the retention.

smart vet glue guy , if minny has some offensive talent on 3 he can help possesion/chances . and i dont doubt playing for weak preds holding his numbers down

I feel like this is a bad deal for Minnesota as well. A 2026 2nd rounder hurts. 2026 should be a better draft class than 2025.

But Guerin loves the guy.

Getting a 2026 2nd for Nyquist seems like highway robbery for Nashville...
Is a 2nd too much? Yep.

Let's take it down a notch with the hyperbole though, eh? Highway robbery is an oversell.

In your opinion. In mine, giving up a 2nd for a guy who people were suggesting would land a 4th at best in the first pages of this thread seems bad to me.

But great use of the Killing Eve gif! I'll bring it down to "very bad" if that works for you.

The 50% retention increased the value. So maybe with no retention it’s a fourth?

What likely happened here is that Guerin is looking at a guy we really liked two years ago, had 75 points last year, is playing in an abysmal offense this year, and he expects him to return to form somewhat in Minnesota. He also likely wanted to ensure he could get the deal done now without risking someone else swooping in later.

Guerin seems to think that aging does not affect hockey players. Disturbing, as a fan of the team.

How is retaining not increasing value?

For a rental at the deadline? It's a courtesy to make a deal happen. Look at how much retention goes for in those three team deals. A 5th? Do you think adding a 5th to a 4th gets you a 2nd?

I am hoping for the best in Gus' case, given Nashville is terrible this year and he just scored 75 last year. But yeah, I'm not expecting it from a 35 year old.
