Haven't been on here much lately so not sure if it was mentioned Pierre McGuire hinted at Rangers making a splash (not Panarin). Maybe a RFA? Aho? Marner? I hope not. I like those players a lot but giving up 4 first rounders plus paying 10 million plus (Marner may want more...Aho maybe less???) should not be on our radar.
I feel like we shouldn't waste time guessing what Pierre McGuire means.

Kane is quoted as saying "I am a little disappointed" after the trade. I'm not sure what else there is to say.

I don't know what you'd expect him to say to the media...

Anyway, the reason they traded for Saad had nothing to do with Panarin's 200 ft game. It was a combination of them wanting to bring back a popular teammate who Towes had success with (he had a rough season prior.) Wasn't a cost cutting thing (Panarin and Saad had identical cap hits the last 2 years) or player control thing either (Saad has all of 2 additional years.)

Note: I don't even want Panarin. Stop making me defend him

ok. i guess I thought this was a hockey board discussing possible Roster/free agent moves lol

Honestly I’d give up four first rounders for him and not bat an eye.

Zibanejad-Aho one two punch is god tier.
Just for debates sake...Aho for four first rounders and 9-9.5 million AAV or Panarin for 11.5 million AAV???

I'll rephrase: I wouldn't spend any time guessing what Pierre McGuire's intentionally vague references mean. If that's your cup of tea, have at 'er.

Panarin, we can still be really bad short-term with one of those guys. I worry about the penalty kill and the goaltending. We haven't had a legitimately bad goaltending season since what, the year Hank slumped and we used Talbot a lot?

June 29th is a good day for James Nill to table Dallas's best offer at 5 years $5.75M or 4 years at $6.4M.
You would think that should get it done if Zucc really likes Dallas. State tax free right? I can't see him getting a better offer than that even from a team like Colorado that has a ton of cap room.
This is gonna be huge for. Surprised it is not being talked about more. But I guess we really don't know what's going on in Zucc's mind.

I feel like vague is pretty much everyone's MO nowadays. Anyway, just thought it was interesting because he said it would not be Panarin if they made a big splash.

When you lay it out like that, the Panarin choice seems like a slam dunk.

But it would be Aho+4 1sts at 9-9.5 going into his age 22 season vs Panarin at 11.5 going into his age 28 season.

In that case, it'd come down to 2 things for me.

1. How confident are you that this group+ Aho is a contender sooner rather than later?
2. Can you back fill some of those 1st rounders through trades? Like say Zucc extends in Dallas and Kreider is traded in a package that involves another pick. Thats 2 1sts right there. If 2 of the young LHD end up stepping up this year or next perhaps it makes Skjei expendable for another package which involves a 1st in 2021. All of a sudden it doesn't look too bad.

Yeah, I guess really my only point is I don’t trust Pierre McGuire. Sorry if it came off dickish.

I don't know. Zucc is very loyal and compassionate but I don't see Dallas as his dream destination. I remember seeing pictures of him hiking and stuff and Colorado does seem to be more Norwegian and to his preference than Dallas. I could see him taking a very comparable deal to play in Colorado especially if the Avs give him 4 for more with their cap or even 5 if they're desperate. They lost out on Panarin, Duchene isn't going back, maybe they can get Pavelski? Colorado might be desperate. A lot of lateral moves shipping out Soderberg and adding Burakovsky today. They have the cap, want to spend it, and I think they'll get someone. I'm guessing Zuccarello will sign super late Monday or push it until mid week for all the big boys to sign first.

1. I'd take Marner at 12.5 and 4 first rounders over either of those options
2. Panarin for no firsts
3. Aho for the first rounders
Wow you would give Marner 12.5 plus lose the 4 firsts? Marner is a wing if he was a center I would possibly do it. I guess we could hope that Chytil/Howden become a terrific second line center or get lucky with a Ryan O'Reilly type trade (terrific center making 6-7 million a year)

I’ll take Panarin at $13m over offer sheeting any of Marner/Aho/Point and losing 4 1sts.
Yeah I know we've done well building up depth and talent in our prospect pool but losing our next 4 firsts including a very good draft (2020) in which we could draft top 10 is a little worrisome.

He's played a lot of center before coming to the NHL. I think he still projects to be one. Remember he's been on the Leafs, for them, having him at center would just be a luxury. For us, it would be a necessity.
