by year 6 of Panarin's contract I mean. If that big TV deal comes through in 2 years and things go from there.

This should never be taken for granted and would be an awful assumption to make if your management.

And irrespective as to whether the cap hits 100M or not during the life of Panarin's contract, if his play declines even to a 40-50 point player, he will still be an albatross.

The Ducks are the last team that needs help on defense. They draft defense better than anyone.

Guess I’m looking at capfriendly depth and trying to see who could use a body . A lot of the other floor teams are filling spots like Buffalo w Miller

I don’t really know the kids that can step in for the Ducks this yr

This is why there is absolutely no sense in buying him out whatsoever.
100%. After the UFA dust settles and teams that miss out on D may have an interest at 50% in the end of July/August time.

If not let him play and with some better talent on the team, increase his value as a TDL move.

There are going to be teams looking for defensive help after UFA. There aren’t that many defensemen. I truly think Shattenkirk will be traded with a small retention for a poor forward contract. Zack Smith? Ryan Reaves?

If we are taking on either of those contracts, I have absolutely no interest in retention. Taking those guys back would be retention enough.

Man I've been to busy with my move to VA I didn't even seen the Burakovsky trade. Assuming that effects the Avs interest in Kreider?

Also with what Kapanen and Johnsson got, Buch should not touch that much over $3MM on a 3 or 4 year deal.

Yes and no as they still have space to add . I’d think they want a C though

Vegas can’t add salary but Ottawa yes they seem to make sense

I agree with Faceless.

-Stay away from Panarin

-Keep flexibility

-That way, if we in 2-3 years, or 4-5 years, want to make a big splash, we will have that flexibility. I want to be that team that media asks, what is NYR going to do with their 40m of cap space?

-This circumstance is a disaster, I’ve said it for years and it’s not going away, TWO more years:

We just must ride it out. Let the kids develop in mean time.

I think that there is a — a lot — of wishful thinking going around about our chances of being able to move these guys. GMs aren’t doing each other any favors.

There are 15-20 teams out there who intends to fix their cap problems by moving 3-4 players with value. It is the same story. If we move Zaitsev, Kadri and X and Y we will be alright. Why aren’t these moves being made? Why aren’t Winnipeg trading Perrault? And so forth.

It’s easy, Vegas got a 2nd rounder for a cheap capable RHS D in his prime. There is no market whatsoever. If you call around and ask what you can get for a solid young cheap top 6 forward/top 4 D — without taking money back — you won’t get anything. It’s ridiculous value objectively to get a 2nd rounder for a solid top 4 D, RD on top of that. On a cheap contract with some term.

-Make trades, not UFA signings. Look how cheap NJD got Subban. Three year deal. They are rebuilding, almost no risk. I think he would have been perfect for us. Not saying that he would have been better than Trouba. Pros and cons.

-Keep Kreider and trade him at the deadline. There is no market right now. IF — and it’s a tremendously huge if — we are involved in a PO battle by then, you deal with it then. Gorton is making a mistake IMO — if — he is worried about that “risk”.

So much have gone extremely well for us to be involved in a PO battle this year if we don’t get Panarin. That is a win no matter what.

Every few years everyone says the cap is taking a big jump and nothing really happens. The Canadian TV contract with Rogers. The NHL deal with MLB. Now it’s the US TV contract. The NHL is getting a bonanza deal. Expansion. New markets.

If the NHL wants a huge cap increase, they need the loonie to stop trading at 75 cents. The loonie drove the salary cap. It was trading on par with the American dollar in 2011 when the Rangers signed Richards. The loonie has been stuck in a trading range for the last 5-6 years.

If the Rangers are planning to free up money for Panarin and they intend to execute a buyout(s), they only have until tomorrow at noon to place a player on waivers and complete the buyout by July 1. They can get a 2nd buyout period if they have an arbitration case. They have 2 players eligible. They may sign Trouba this week. Figure out how much signing bonus money. Structure. NMC. Limited no trade clause later in the contract. Buchnevich. He could be traded. The Rangers could potentially have no arbitration cases. There are players who can’t be bought out in the summer.

Teams took for granted the cap this year would come in where it was predicted to in December. Good luck to those predicting where it will be years from now. They only have to negotiate the CBA in between.

The pro is You get a big time asset for nothing but money the con is you end up paying more than the guy is probably worth.

This isn’t news and it happens to every team.

Nothing is for free in life. Certainly not in business.

Unfortunately, Kakko is Swedish (as per NHL network). would be a fit for Aho.

They’ve been painful to watch all summer.

They didn’t even include ADA in our defensive depth chart when we dealt for trouba.

Lawton went on and on all day for hours about how interesting we were going to be at the draft with 2 first rounders before finally 10 mins before it started someone finally corrected him

Lawton (real life Gordon Bombay) is trying. Hopefully Hans hands the skate shop over to him soon.

and Pionk is still on our FA list.

I am reading about these prospects and I have to hand it to Gorton. I know it's a bit early, but this is going to be the new textbook on how you execute a rebuild. Don't wait until there is nothing of value left on your roster before making the call. This rebuild was possible because there were a ton of. high value players left to move for real assets. It may be the move only a team like NY can make, in that truly, the financial ability to remain viable regardless of the product on the ice or the opinion of fans exists where it may not in some markets. Gorton put his team on a course for a ground up rebuild through his decisions. How the scouts selected and how those picks pan out could change the ending of the story, but Damn he's been killing it since the letter.

For a network that does nothing but Hockey, you would think they could get it all right. I got a kick out of that Pionk thing too. Maybe they offer sheet him?:naughty:
