The Panthers are right on the cusp of being a REALLY good team. You can think of them looking to sign Panarin as potentially having the same effect that Richards did on the 11-12 Rangers. Of course, the Rangers already had Lundqvist, thus the Bob push.

That being said, it's not like the Rangers don't have their own selling points to push.
The panthers have been on the cusp since they lost to jersey in 11-12 and then again when they lost to the isles in 15-16. Never happens

Why?

Bc what team of players can get up to play 41 games in an empty arena

Does anyone think panarin is choosing that over MSG?

Once I heard the rangers we’re willing to go in the mid 11s on this.

My stance has stiffed and taken root. Panarin’s not choosing Florida when the rangers are in that ballpark

There’s no way panarin Is going to the panthers or islanders. Totally laughable.

He’ll be a Ranger. I mean we’re not even competing with real organizations here. This is a layup. They’re only in the convo to try and bring the price up a bit and the Rangers as they always do under Gorton leak that they won’t get into a bidding war. They always say it

He’ll be a Ranger

I kind of agree with this. If he doesn’t sign here it’s because Gorton put in a half ass attempt at getting him. If he truly wants him, he’ll sign here.

Yeah it’s beginning to unfold this Way yes.

I’ll say it I’ll be floored if he signs with the panthers/islanders

I promise I’ll never come back to HFboards if he does

With multiple bidders, including a senile Lou who gives zero ****s about the cap (See: Toronto).

All I was saying was that was the reported ask. You can fault teams for giving it to him, but that definitely seems like a likely starting point for Panarin & co to begin with. And if someone does it, they were absolutely justified in asking.

Frank said Panarin is looking for CMD money. $12M to $12.5M per. The Rangers are giving him that much?
Brace yourself for the worst.

Comparing to McDavid money is stupid. Salary value increases year to year as the leagues growth increases. McDavid’s yearly AAV is probably worth $14-$15 at this point. Its not comparable for Panarin to draw on that

Agreed. They just tried to accumulate talent without a coherent plan for building an actual team.

I think the approach the Rangers have taken, Panarin aside, is night and day compared to The Oilers.

Then you have to factor in the desirability of the market to accentuate the approach the Rangers have taken.

Oilers have never addressed defence or goaltending. Rangers appear to have two starters 23 years old ready to take over for Hank and a plethora of defenders chomping at the bit to make the team today let alone in 2-4 years.

The Rangers plan has been nothing like the Oilers and wanting to add a Panarin doesn't change that

and 4 RFA years.

McDavid is 22... that's scary. Hopefully he's playing meaningful games when he's at his peak

On this I fully agree, which is why I have stayed away from most comparisons with other franchises in regards to rebuilds. Where you and I disagree is on Panarin. The risk bothers me.

Custance:

Free agency countdown: Latest on the goalie market, Matt...

"4. The focus for Pavelski is squarely on putting himself in position to win a Stanley Cup, an accomplishment that has eluded him so far in his career. According to colleague Michael Russo, the Wild would love to add Pavelski, but that doesn’t appear to be a team knocking on the door of a championship as currently constructed – even with Pavelski in the lineup. That could be a tough sell. Other teams are expecting the Wild to make a push for Wayne Simmonds if they can’t land Pavelski.

3. The fascinating thing to watch will be whether or not Pavelski circles back at the end with the Sharks. Interest is high in him right now. He’s set up to get a great deal on the market. At this point, my guess would be no."

Dangit, Stars! He's not the guy you want.

Come on RB you know what the deal is. It’s just not your game plan so your playing blind to it

It’s negotiating. That’s panarins official starting point. brooks say 11-11.25 and carp 11.5.

They will meet in the middle. Between 11.6-12.

The rangers aren’t losing him over 725k-1mil

The Oilers drafting outside of the slam dunk picks (and even then...) has been just plain bad and is a big reason they've failed to put a good team around the talent they drafted high. You can't really rebuild a team if the only draft picks that amount to anything are your first round picks

So, to move away from Panarin for a minute, what options do the Rangers have for 2C (assuming Chytil/Howden/Lias aren't ready for that role)? Right now our options look like Strome or Namestnikov - not exactly thrilling.

Duchene and Pavelski are going to be too expensive and want too much term. Brassgod could MAYBE be a stopgap depending on $ and term.

Right now I feel like 2C and 1LD are our biggest holes. Anyone have any creative ideas to address 2C, or do we just roll with one of Strome/Nams and hope that one of the kids is ready by the end of next season?
