In a lot of the interviews around when they hired Q, he mentioned in a few of them how much the owner wants to spend right now. Their whole situation right now feels like they really want to spend the money to build a team to get people interested and keep them interested

Yup. All signs point to them really opening up the check book. That's why they were in the mix to begin with for these guys. I doubt the Rangers have any sort of financial advantage here no matter how hard people want to hope that they do.

Vinny Viola (sidenote: an alumnus of my law school who grew up a huge Rangers fan) has a lot of money to burn. They are gonna break the bank for these two guys.

I guess it's going to be pretty quiet for us on July 1 from the sounds of it. We are seemingly in the limbo stage of the rebuild as we are about 60% through it and we just need to allow things to develop naturally.

As much as I wanted us too do it and still do, doesn't seem like we are going to get Panarin.

He was only guy I would have opened up the vault for but it looks like he's either going to the Island which would really suck to be honest or Florida which is where if he goes anywhere...go the the Panthers.

I guess other than a couple of minor type moves where we bring in a veteran or two to give the kids a break here and there, we are just going to continue to embrace the rebuild which I'm more than fine with.

Next year at this same time, it will undoubtedly be a whole different story but for now, I guess we'll just sit back and watch everyone spend like sailors on shore leave this coming Monday while we sit back and get ready for the kids to come back to school from their summer vacation...lol

So sell the farm for one player about to make the same money as panarin with similar production... instead of getting panarin for only money .
Rather keep the farm

Listen I was just thinking out loud and not sure how realistic that is as far as the Leafs would be concerned but if you don't think that Mitch Marner--arguably a top 10-15 forward in the league and in his very early 20's wouldn't be worth Chytil (who may one day be a 1st liner or not), Andersson (who will probably become a 2nd/3rd liner) and Hajek (whose upside is a top 4 D) I don't know what to say to you. They should all be good to very good players but Marner is a legit star and the Rangers would still be loaded with prospects.

But yeah I'd rather sign Panarin and still have them all without giving up anything. Just spitballing with the Marner idea is all.

I like Panarin but not above $10 million. What does the UFA list look like next summer and two summers from now?

Not good, as I would stay the f*** away from Hall and hope the Devils shell out a ton of cash for his soon to be perpetually on the IR ass.

Trades will be available, they always are. We've stock piled a shit ton of assets. We'll be fine no matter what happens on July 1 (unless we sign Panarin for something absurd, then we're kind of f***ed.)

Hall next year, no one on that level the year after except Ovi, who I doubt goes anywhere but Washington or Russia

Anyone that could be of note and/or on radar

2020

Taylor Hall
Mikael Granlund
Brayden Schenn
Charlie Coyle

2021

Ovechkin (not happening)
Brandon Saad
Jaden Schwartz

Realistically, Hall is the only player that would be in Panarin’s ball park and there’s no guarantee Hall even makes it to UFA

Backstrom and Peitrangelo are UFA too.

Debatable.

Panarin likes beaches.

Jersey shore, Hamptons, etc...

Miami area is way too congested and mass transportation is non existent. I don’t care for it much and Sunrise vs. MSG isn’t even a comp.

Matter of personal preference. I get it either way - more money in Fl or more environment and legacy in NY. Nice to have choices.

Frankly, I’d rather do the opposite. What was Marner’s point total this season? I’m willing to bet that Marner’s contract ends being a much better value than Panarin’s. Part of the benefit of accumulating so many assets is to make the trade you just described.
